My starter was the king prawn cocktail and was amazing. Very pleased with my rib eye steak. The chips were amazing. Highly recommended. Great pub

Went for lunch Thursday 3/3/22 ordered starters and main course for two.I ordered steak and Peppercorn sauce, medium to well done, only to be told as it was being dished up that there was no peppercorn sauce. I informed the staff I would have a burger instead. After a few minuets the staff member came back saying the chef would make some sauce fresh !!!!???? Would have thought it should have been fresh anyway! My steak arrived still mooing so had to send it back also mushroom and tomato cold.My meal was returned to me a few minuets later with a fresh hot tomato and mushroom but the steak still not cooked to my choice and full of fat and gristle, totally inedible.I ate the chips and a few onion rings (if you could call them onion rings) and asked for the bill. The bill arrived with a service charge and we questioned was this automatic to which she said we have taken the mushroom and peppercorn sauce off the bill, would you like the service charge removed?I requested that the steak was inedible I’d prefer that to be taken off.The waitress came back a few minutes later had REMOVED a the service charge but REINSTATED a the mushroom and peppercorn charges.WILL NEVER RETURN.

Hadn’t been in the black horse for about 20 yrs, so glad we went this afternoon , had the best roast we have had in a long time in a restuarant, the food was absolutely spot on! And our waitress Nina was so lovely , super polite and quick and nothing was too much trouble for her. We will be back soon :-)

Beautiful interior like a traditional pub. Service was quite slow unfortunately and we waited 45 minutes for our food. The food was actually really nice and the onion rings were delicious. I'm asked for my steak to be medium rare but it was more on the rare side. The dessert was quite nice but the creme brulé was freezing at the bottom but warm on the top. It also has a weird grainy texture so I was rather disappointed as I was looking forward to it.Overall, good food, lovely interior but service and attention to detail was a bit disappointing.

As we head out of Christmas and into the second week of the year it’s time to get the Sunday lunch trail up and running. With this we headed for a long overdue return to the Black Horse in Brentwood which is part of the Vintage Inns chain. I’m also now very pleased to say we weren’t let down in the slightest. On our arrival we received a lovely greeting which included a welcome back from manager Leigh before being seated at our table. We started with a drink while having a look at the menu. Once we made our decisions our waitress Nina who I have to say was very friendly and professional throughout our lunch took our order. We started with a Prawn Cocktail and the oven baked Button & Portobello Mushrooms. These dishes were a delight and a great way to begin. Now we moved on to the roasts and boy were we in for a treat. My wife opted for the Roast Turkey and for myself I had to choose the Trio of Roasts which was a mix of pork belly , turkey & beef. The roasts were accompanied with a selection of vegetables , roast potatoes , yorkshire pudding , gravy and of course the additional cauliflower cheese. We now needed a little break before finishing with dessert. This gave us a chance to have a chat with manager Leigh. For dessert my wife chose the Eton Mess and on waitress Nina’s recommendation I chose the Banoffee Pie with toffee sauce. We finished with a coffee to bring to an end a fantastic Sunday Lunch. The food and service was excellent and really can’t wait to visit again soon. I would definitely recommend a visit as this is a great place for couples , small and large groups where you can enjoy good food along with friendly service.Thank You Leigh and all the team especially our waitress Nina who really looked after us and look forward to seeing you all again very soon

Everything about this place is great - the food, beer, service, atmosphere, big car park ... the lot. If you've not got the Vintage Inns app, download it and register and you'll get 20% off your food bill Mon-Fri (with a few exceptions!). Thoroughly recommended.

Lovely traditional pub with a simple menu and tasty food. Good selection of drinks. Only 1 ale on tap but they sometimes have 2. Dog friendly in the bar area.

The wife and I had a really enjoyable evening here, with drinks in the spacious garden and a lovely meal in what I would call a real country pub. Thanks to the staff and especially Nina who looked after us all evening. Strongly recommend
