Group of 5 booking. We arrived at 6.45pm for our evening meal. Two of the group decided to have a starter, The crab starter was extremely disappointing, even the diners on the table near to us complained to the waitress about the crab starter, did she pass concerns on to the chef?We then waited over an hour and 10 minutes from when 2 of our group finished their starter to receiving our main. Two of the group had the lamb pie,1 Sea Bass,1Salmon and 1 Tuna burger. The tuna burger was the only meal which got a good review.I would have said about this on the night but my mother asked me not to.as she said we just wont come here again. We have dined at The Chequers on many occasion since 2010,and always enjoyed the food, also when coming in group work party's.Food not up to standard for prices especially the starters. Flavourless.

Had a meal here with friends on 23rd February 2022. I ordered the burger with chips and it was lovely, the chips were the best I have tasted in any restaurant.Staff were friendly and characterful!Had a couple of pints of " Granny won't like it" real ale and was pleasantly surprised with the fact that it had a proper "head", just like back home in Yorkshire, and was superb. My only niggle was that I didn't get a chocolate with my Irish coffee but was told that would be rectified for my next visit.

Food is nice but on the expensive side for an ordinary pub, no bar menu so not a lot of choice for a quick snack but the food is tasty. Could do with someone with more experience behind the bar or the chap on his laptop to get up and help out when it gets busy.

Pub food with a twist, tasty and with warm service. Cosy old pub atmosphere too. Will definitely come back!

We pre-booked a table. All 6 of us met up outside and were met at the door by one of the friendly staff. We were shown our table and our orders were quickly taken. The staff were very knowledgeable about both the food and drink on offer. We had a very pleasant stay, the food and drinks were excellent. We all enjoyed the banter with the staff, who responded accordingly. We are likely to make this a regular visit.

Food was very average and bland. Service was very good and the manager was helpful and understanding of the issues we had with the main course. The standard of pubs nearby is very high and I hope this place doesn't fail due to a weak chef.

Beautiful pub and young lady serving was pleasant, however our meal was ruined. Our child roast has siracha cauliflower on it which for a 15month old baby was less than ideal. The waitress was alerted and she did offer to replace it, we opted for ice cream to cheer him up.The 2 main adult roasts were equally awful, bland vegetables, rock hard roast potatoes and chewy beef. We had the table booked for 5:15 and if they can't produce fresh food late in the day they should take it off the menu, not serve up food that has sat for a long period of time. Take pride in your food, we live down the road but I wouldn't go back again based on other places around the area.

Fantastic food cooked to perfection. Best service I've ever had anywhere. Big portions, even on the festive menu. Gluten free food on request which isn't just edible but lovely. All in all I couldn't rate it highly enough

Nice pub and friendly helpful staff. Was disappointed with the food, some of it was rather undercooked and some overcooked and my meal in particular could have done with a gravy or sauce. Was really looking forward to the meal as a lot of friends have had given great reviews and was disappointed that it didn't meet expectations and for what we received it was very expensive.I can't even say it was due to them being busy as there were more empty tables than those with customers.

Walked in without booking on a Monday lunchtime, friendly welcome, seated in a cosy restaurant area with open fire, perfect as it was a very wet and cold day. Very friendly waitress, great knowledge of the food, went for the seasonal offer and was not disappointed, absolutely amazing lamb burger and the hot chocolate and cappuccino cake was delicious. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going again! (Which will be very soon as I left my hat there!)
