Manze's Pie and Mash in Broxbourne

Don't go anywhere else. You want good pie and mash this is the one. Originally from Walthamstow (London) and I think still own the shop in London. Been eating there food since early 90's. Best around. 👌

Normally great pie and mash I drive over from Bishops Stortford because they are so nice. But went in ordered two large and double mash. Took home to heat up later in the day, wife served it up looked great but was given bloody ONION Pies had to throw the £12 meal into the bin. Normally would ring and sort out but if no one picks up the phone I can't.

A decent pie & mash shop, maybe not quite as good as Castles in Camden, or Kelly's on the Roman Rd, but that's just my opinion. I've read other reviews on here some only giving 1 star, and complaining about the pies and the gravy. I'm sure these people are not familiar with traditional pie shops. Pie and mash is historically poor food, made for Londons working class. The pastry used is called water pastry, basically flour water and a bit of seasoning, traditionally with a minced mutton filling. The mutton has been replaced with minced beef these days, but the pastry remains the same. The pies are meant to be rather plain, it's what gives them their character.As for the complaints about the gravy....!If you require gravy on your traditional pie and mash,Traditional pie and mash is not for you.

Walked in and it was as if they'd never seen a customer.Then carried on chatting and we were ignored.The pie was so bland,no meat content there.Mash was edible,but the gravy was strong bisto and liquor nothing like what it should've tasted like.We were the only people in there and I now know why.

We have just left the Pie Mash shop And to be truthful its was one of the best I've ever eaten 2 and 2 large with extra liquor and 1x1 for me old mate . Topped off with 2 x 2 takeaway for the Mrs ? Instead of a Salad lol . We will be back and the Staff were great xx

The pie's pastry was terrible with hardly any meat inside and was just warm. I was expecting home made pie but these are massed produced. Would not recommend at all.
