Chinese Canteen in Cambridge

When I say this is the worst restaurant food experience of my life, I am UNDER EXAGGERATING. Although the starters (spare ribs, chicken wings, squid) were passable, the “set menu C” was rancid. The rice was gelatinous and strange, while the kung pao fish wobbled of its own accord. Another highlight was the leathery, boot-like beef dish which was greasy, overpowering and an overall disappointment. The pork dish was one of the most peppery things I’d ever eaten, while the chicken was edible.The service was slow but friendly. This, however, does not excuse the absolutely miserable food offering. Would not recommend.

Good Chinese food, the Soy Sauce Aubergines and the Chairman Mao pork are very very tasty. Great value for the money, everything is very affordable.

Really excellent — from outside looks a bit unprepossessingly old-fashioned, but turns out to be old-school in the best sense. Great menu (including great vegetarian range) and consistently great execution. Especially recommend the oil-poured noodles, Yu-Xiang aubergine, and five-spiced tofu.

Food is amazing, if you want Chinese food in Cambridge then this is the place to go! The crispy pork belly is delicious and the special fried rice is to die for!!

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in the city. The food is genuinely traditional Chinese and they put so much effort into making The dishes taste, look and smell so good. The dishes are larger so they can be shared in a truly traditional Chinese manner which is very sociable and indeed economical. For me to award 5 stars to a restaurant is extremely rare and as such I recommend you go to this restaurant and try some of their dishes, in particular their excellent specials. You will be very pleasantly surprised by the food they offer, in comparison with any bog standard Chinese takeaway, Where the food has been tailored to English palates. Surely it is better to eat traditional and authentic Chinese food that the Chinese people would eat themselves?! ...This is the place

Shocked how quiet this place was because the owner, Sam, the staff and the food were absolutely amazing. We had menu set A and extras, everything was cooked to perfection. Shame we're only here for the weekend and busy tonight because I would love to come back here. Sam and his staff were all so friendly and funny and.made the visit so much more enjoyable. I can't remember the last time I gave 5*'s, but this place I won't forget. Well done Sam and team 👏👏

Reasonable, quick, and tasteful enough. I enjoyed both having a meal alone and with friends so casually. The website indicates 10% discount for a Cambridge student.

My very first time at a Chinese canteen and my very first time visiting one in Cambridge. Lovely hang with my Team mates and my friend from China who recommended the canteen. The very best!!! I enjoyed the food and the ambience was great. My girlfriend and I will return for a visit.
