The Punter in Cambridge
Where is The Punter?
🏠 3 Pound Hill, Cambridge CB3 0AE
Cosy pub overlooking a secluded garden courtyard, with 1930s-era artwork jumbled about the walls.

Popped in on a Monday for lunch, as many local places closed. Young staff were attentive, polite and flexible, extending the kitchen to allow for lunch for four at 15:00! Parking on the street outside at £1.60 per hour. Good food, served promptly and all round excellent table service.

We went to have a lunch but we arrived late, so we only drink a local beer and enjoyed the comfy environment. We seated outside. I do recommed the pub for everybody. I would like to be back and try the dishes.

Just had a family lunch with friends at the Punter. Fabulous service, lovely quirky interior, and some of the best fish and chips I’ve had in ages - delicious light batter and chips. Recommend! Easy to park outside.

Delicious food, generous portions (seriously), lovely staff and cosy atmosphere. My mum thoroughly enjoyed her birthday lunch and we will definitely be returning! (Photo of the salmon dish)

Delicious and great atmosphere, with interesting decor. Local art for sale on the walls. Good range of flavoured gin!

I called in with 2 friends last Saturday. The Good, welcoming atmosphere, good beer and wine to enjoy and happy diners on other tables. The not so good, we all ordered Fish N Chips, good to see haddock being served, but instead of being golden batter it was dark brown and very crispy, as cooked at too high for too long.I would have been okay with this, if it had not been served on a bed of chips, That should not have left the kitchen – lukewarm, tired and dry, they had been cooked a long time!I notice a previous reviewer had the same experience. We also had 10% service charge added to the bill, which the waiter did ask if we were happy paying. I went to have a look at the menu, yes the service charge is mentioned, but you will probably miss it, as it is in smaller type than the rest of the menu and dwarfed by the line above in bold type!Yes we could have said something about the meal, but we were hungry and did not want to wait another 20 minutes for a replacement. It alright saying you ask if people are happy with the 10% service charge, but most people will not say NO even if inclined to do so – it is human nature. So as other reviewers have said, there are many other establishments to eat at in Cambridge, we will try them in future and without a service charge that takes the cost above the norm.

We went to the Punter yesterday (15th Jan, 22) The food was delicious, the service was excellent, staff very welcoming. The place was clean, and the food smelled delicious as we entered the building. We loved the eclectic artwork and furnishings, the punter has a very relaxing ambience, I will definitely go there again. Big thanks to all staff for making our visit such a nice one.

lovely pub, but not quite hitting the spot. couldn't order drinks at bar which meant service was slower than usual and didn't really make much sense. menu is good but not too much variety. was put in the barn out the back as front full, quiet and lacking atmosphere. friendly service and good range of drinks.

Food is delicious and staff were so helpful and kind. Both me and my friend are gluten free and they kindly adapted both our meals painlessly. We both felt comfortable and at ease and our meals were just as delicious. Thank you so much! Loved it!

It's an okay pub.I wouldn't recommend it, as the service was not good (not attentive and really sloweven though the pub was empty).I didn't enjoy the food either, very very plain.Loos were dirty.... I didn't like it and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as there are plenty of better options around.
