The food is excellent, locally sourced and enough to feed a horse. This was my first brunch at A Canteen and it will not be my last. I was very impressed with the quality and flavours of the Big Breakfast.Small comment on the service, is they currently have the serve yourself App and offer an at table service, which we chose, but it meant the coverage was a little sporadic, I assume because the staff have gotten used to the self service app. It did not affect the overall atmosphere nor the great value for the food…

We had the best night at ACanteen yesterday evening. Red was exceptional regarding service and attention and the food was fantastic. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with music and really nice, friendly staff which made it a great night for us. Its a really unique place and we will certainly be returning, thank you to everyone there for a great night out!

Lovely staff and very decent food. The stone baked pizzas and brunch menu are the stars of the show. Also the bottomless drinks are very generous if you are looking for a good time! They lose a star from me because the app ordering has caused me nothing but problems the last 2 times I've been. Also different menus compared to app availability, just makes it a bit confusing.

Been here a few times now so decided to come for a work event. Staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble, even when we forgot that someone in the party was vegan. Oops! Great food, probably the best cocktails in Chelmsford and warm atmosphere. And its family run, whats not to love?!

Since moving to Chelmsford acanteen has been on the list to try. Popping by during lockdowns for milkshakes and pastries to takeaway, not to mention the odd pulled pork brioche. Finally we tried it for brunch and were… disappointed. We were seated and despite asking for “2 and a high chair for the little fella” we had to ask someone else again for the high chair.Everyone seated around us had paper menus, we had to go online and flick through a clunky webpage expanding each category to see what was on offer.I get the use of the app to speed up the process and reduce interaction etc with covid but it’s not best for choosing what you want when you’ve not been before. When the food came it was poorly cooked. The sausages on the full breakfast were burnt on the outside and uncooked inside. The poached eggs tasted like they were pickled. For the chicken and waffles, the chicken buttermilk coating was also burnt and the chicken itself very watery inside. The waffles and syrup were nice though.Unfortunately nobody asked how our meal was and the staff seem to have disappeared until we were walking out of the door.

Thought the service very slow, struggled to find anything on the menu I liked, having seen cream cheese and salmon bagel online and was dreaming of that. Had a bacon bloomer ate it but found the bread very doughty. I think everyone else in the group enjoyed and the company and ambience was good. Some staff very friendly.

Given my previous few experiences we only "so, so" - but pre-pandemic, I've was happy to give A Canteen another go. Food was generous and tasty. My Salt Beef sandwich was plentiful and delicious. The coffee was strong and well crafted. Good job.

The best brunch spot in Chelmsford! Visited for brunch just before Christmas, the food was delicious and staff were so friendly. A small group of us also spent NYE at the bar and loved it, great drinks and the band were spectacular. Looking forward to going again soon.

Great independent locally owned restaurant with a nice range of food options across their menu. I recommend the burger option (pictured) and the chocolate brownie (pictured) dessert, but in truth I’ve tried several things across their menu and everything is well presented and equally tasty! And for special occasions and larger groups they also do well at catering for special requests. They also have lunch offerings for take away too, like sandwiches etc, from their cafe area at the front of the restaurant. Definitely worth a visit!
