Happy Gourmet in Chelmsford

Wasn’t great curry sauce was watery and bland no flavour better places around price don’t match food

We searched around for ages for a new chinese takeaway after our previous "go to" local establishment slapped on a minimum order fee (£25) and delivery charge. For 2 people thats not always feasible. The food from happy gourmet is delicious, consistent and well priced. Lived all over the country and this takeaway comes out in our top 3 from all the different chinese takeaways we've tried.

Love their food as I always order takeaways from them. I have been their patron for so many years. Staff are very polite and their service is top notch.

Happy gourmet is the best Chinese in Chelmsford. I randomly ordered one night because was cheapest delivery fee on justeat. Food always comes very hot and tasty. All requests for ingredients removed or added are always done. Can’t fault. Even encouraged others I know to order from happy gourmet and all very happy and carry on ordering from you guys. GREAT WORK

Nice food, as usual, but no free prawn crackers (again!) despite asking for them. Third time this has happened. It clearly states on the menu - Free prawn crackers with orders over £17. Don't print it if you don't mean it.

I collected the food as I am staying in a nearby hotel. The food was amazingly tasty, hot and fresh. It tasted just like a takeaway I used in London for many years before it closed. If ever I stay in Chelmsford again I will definitely be back to the Happy Gourmet.

Delivery takes 1 hour 45 mins with no email confirmation, no estimated time for delivery and they don’t answer their phone. Clearly, they no longer have the resources to support the demand and can’t communicate. If you can’t support your customers, then don’t bother. Happy Gourmet seems to have changed for the worse.. Disappointed as they used to be good. Won’t be going back.

Food really fresh and tasty. The crispy beef is done well, nice and crispy and not chewy or soggy, can't say that about most places. Chicken balls not greasy and likewise with the chow mein, chilli ribs lovely as well!

Went to order tonight from our regular happy gourmet and had a look through the just eat reviews to notice that my comment on how there was a hair in my food on our last order and how they should be more careful in the kitchen was taken off. That's really disappointing, that comment should of been taken as a health and safety complaint and not wiped off, I understand that it looks bad for you but you shouldn't act like it doesn't exist, you should of responded reassuring me it won't happen again making me feel confident to order from you again.. Therefore we no longer want to order from happy gourmet again, not because of the food because despite the hair the food is decent but because of poor health and safety and customer service.

The food is usually consistent from here but my last order merely consisted of a couple of portions of sweet and sour balls. They arrived a very dark brown colour, overcooked and inedible.I called and asked for some more to be sent out which they did but alas, they were much the same.As I said on the phone at the time, the chef would have known they were overcooked and should never have sent them out.My search for a decent Chinese takeaway in Chelmsford continues.
