First time here. Public car park was closed, meaning you had to try and park on the roads along with seemingly hundreds of others - far from ideal.... Lots of beeping & traffic jams.Food was good and reasonably priced, service was quick. Lots of tables but very busy & getting busier - dog friendly & body boards as far as the eye could see!

Beautiful location- very reasonably priced lunch - cheese was falling out of the sandwich- no scrimping there. A little bit of parking at the back of the tearooms for customers only and everyone else on the road where there is a couple of kerbs you can tuck yourself onto.

Lovely spot for a cuppa and lunch. Card payments accepted. Loos for customers and dog bowl and tap for furry pals. Nice walk by canal/river and through fields to Boreham which also has nice pubs and a fascinating church with long history.

Lovely walk along the canal. We stopped at the tearoom for a lovely mug of tea and a bacon roll. Would recommend

Discovered at the beginning of summer, return all the time! The tearoom is the highlight of all my Chelmer paddles, and I always plan my route to pass it. They always have really delicious vegan toasties and vegan bakewell tart and non-dairy milks for the Yorkshire tea. The staff are simply the loveliest, most polite and friendly bunch of young folks - a real credit to the place. I see a couple of reviewers criticising prices, but prices seem completely fair compared to scenic and quality cafes here in Essex. Parking is free in the tearoom carpark and free all along the road. I’ve never had a problem finding parking space in the road, but there is also a £5 all day carpark next door to the cafe run by a farmer (nothing to do with the cafe any more) if you want the luxury of inflating kayaks and boards on grass under the shade of willow trees, which is nice to treat yourself sometimes!

Lovely tea rooms providing tea, coffee, sandwiches, cakes etc. So much to do here. There are walks along the canal towards Maldon or Chelmsford, there are boat trips along the Chelmer canal or for the more adventurous you can hire canoes and kayaks by the hour. There is a car park adjacent which is £5 per day and which has a lovely picnic area beside the willow trees. Highly recommended.

Lovely place to visit and to bring the children to see the barges, the lock, the paddle boards, have a drink and a sandwich and generally to have a very nice day

Travelled 7 miles down stream from Chelmsford, through the city and out into the countryside on a glorious sunny day. Arrived at paper mill lock and had coffee and the most delicious carrot cake. It was all a very serene experience. Loved every minute.
