The Anchor in Chelmsford

Lovely old country pub with tastefully constructed extension housing the restaurant section. Service was first class and food quality high. The pub is clearly popular as even attending midweek for lunch it was well filled with people. Not uncomfortably crowded but enough to create a lovely atmosphere. Good selection of options on the menu plus plenty of specials on the chalk board to cater for most tastes. Will definitely recommend.

Great local, waiting staff are friendly, and lovely food

A lovely welcoming young lady made our meal a real joy. I was moved to The Garden Room on what was a beautiful Spring Day. I waited for the pub to open, but the welcome I received initially was a little underwhelming as the first customer of the day, and I was shown to a darkcorner of the pub. Things 'picked up' when I was moved and the food was delicious. Our delightful waitress made all the difference, I didn't get a name but thank you.

Nestled in a lane off the main drag through the village you'll find The Anchor, where the service is great and the welcome is warm and friendly.Tonight my sister and I booked in for a Sunday Lunch. Good sized helpings, you certainly won't be coming away hungry, that's for sure!Beautiful village pub with outside tables for when the weather warms up are available too.A very good menu and specials board awaits you.

First visit for us but certain it isn't the last!We met friends here for lunch as they had visited several times before and said it was a nice venue with good food. Three out of the four of us are vegetarian/vegan and although the options are not extensive the quantity and quality of all the food ordered was very good as was the service.As a group we had a dog with us so were seated in the dog friendly bar which was fine as we appreciate that not everyone likes dogs.All in all this is nice pub with honest, home cooked food. We look forward to going back and next time taking advantage of the circular dog walk that is adverstised on the website.

A very warm and welcoming interior juxtaposes the dark gloomy Essex landscape. Especially during these complicated covid times I was made nervous by the number of people in one room. From drinks and starters to mains and deserts the meals where superb, complex and flavourful, however I did notice the food took quite a while to come. So my advice for anyone considering coming here for a quick pub lunch, perhaps rethink your options. But it is a lovely place for a proper fancy meal out.

Me and two friends booked a table here on a Sunday. First time being here, It's a really nice pub! The starters were large quantities for a great price, however due to the quantity being big, my friends weren't happy as they now didn't know if they were going to be able to get through their main meal and we were too full up, to be able to get a dessert.I really enjoyed the food, Sunday Roast Beef dinner was so nice to eat, very filling, it's what I was mostly looking forward to after seeing other people's photos on here. I would say that this place needs to invest in sharper knives, I couldn't even cut through a potato with them and when we ordered the second drinks when they asked us. They forgot about it and we ended up needing to ask them again, then the drinks arrived way after we had already eaten our main meal. It wasn't even busy at all there. Overall, I would still come back here again at some point as the food was still great and the place looked nice, the staff were also very polite.

Had lunch out with friends who recommended the anchor, last time we came here with friends, the landlord kicked our friends out into the pouring rain while waiting for a taxi, heard it had changed hands.Staff pleasant and attentive, menu while small had something for everyone.Portions ok, food ok, friend's enjoyed it that's what counts, might get back again but competition is really good in the area.
