Nice coay pub. Staff friendly. Roast dinner wasn’t that great as I had beef but it was under cooked and lots of fat on it. While my mate had chicken on the bone but more bone than chicken which wasn’t worth the price. Rest of the meal was nice. Could have done better with the meats.

Only had a coffee (2) for this visit.Read menu, they want £17.50 for Cod and Chips you must be joking.Rip off price, appreciate we had lock down but no need to charge this price in a pub in Essex. Will return for coffee but will not buy any food.

Might have been nice food but after a 15 minute wait for someone to take our order we walked out. The waitress that we spoke to on our way out thought it was funny. We won't bother again

Went there today for lunch got there at 12.30 and ordered straight away it took over 30 minutes for the starter to arrive and then nearly a hour later for our main course and then when my lunch arrived it was cold. Not impressed. The pub wasn't that busy either.

Lovely food. Hot and fresh. We had the roast beef and although the beef looked like it was from a packet, ie, wafer thin, it was very nice.Only negative I can give would be the roast potatoes. They weren't brown or crunchy on the outside and were quite hard inside. The rest was good. Drinks were plentiful and with a big selection. The staff were lovely albeit, slow to attend. They were busy though.Worth a visit! We'll be going back. 👍

A pub full of character, lovely staff and tasty food. Nice portion sizes and when we booked for a birthday meal we had a private room all to ourselves which was a lovely touch!

Impromptu early dinner pop in on a Saturday night.Managed to get a table as it was not busy at 6.00.I had the Malaysian chicken and my wife had whitebait both very nice. She had the Malaysian chicken for her main and I had good ole scampi. Both very nice, hot and tasty especially the Malaysian chicken! Not a large choice on the menu but to be expected in these covid no show times.Would recommend.

Unplanned late lunch today . Welcoming staff, great table next to an open window . Nearly fell off my chair at Fish & Chips for £16.99. But ( although the chips were a bit dull ) it was the best Cod ever - fresh , great big flakes, and two portions of it . I'd have happily paid that money for the fish alone . And I live by the seaside , so I know about fish n chips.Tartare sauce looked as tasted home made. Lovely.Clean, great decor , good parking . Can highly recommend.Would have given 5 stars had the chips been better !

I have seen this pub so many times and it really does look inviting for the outside. The old world charm, wonky roof and the hope a low beamed interior and roaring fire made us give this pub a go.My fiancée and I had walked around the antique shops and we, well I wanted something to eat as we, well I was hungry. OK, we were BOTH hungry but you get my drift.I had checked the lunch menu out but we were too early so out came the breakfast menu (1000-1200). We did have the option of popping back at 1200 but because we had finished our wander, there was little point of coming back so we stayed. The pub was very quiet and so we had the pick of the tables and opted for one by the open fire (wood, not gas). That is a tick in my box and is what "real" pub should have. The interior had low beams and yet was bright and modern but old at the same time. There was a huge amount of charm about this place which is a great thing in the day of clean lines and everything being "surgical" like. This then was tick number 2.Food was excellent. We opted for 2 veggie breakfasts and asked for extra hash browns so we would get rid of the mushrooms (devil food). The food was freshly cooked, was on point, it was hot, it was tasty, it was of high quality and was presented very well too. Can't really say much more than that. Was the price worth it? To be fair, a pint of coke, 1 tea and 2 breakfasts was around £21 so for a gusto trip pub I don't think it was that dear. OK, it is not a greasy spoon cafe with their portion sizes and prices but because of the quality ingredients of the pub, you will pay a little extra. You have to also remember it is located in the middle of one of the biggest antique markets in Essex, so there is a captive market. We were served by 2 different ladies and one was very friendly and the other was OK. She wasn't rude at all but didn't really want to make conversation and I noticed that. However, I can accept we all have bad days so I won't hold it against her.Overall a good visit and it is highly likely we will be back as and when we are over in the direction again.

Busy little pub when we visited. Sadly under staffed so quite a wait for drinks but eventually served with a smile. Can’t comment on the food as we did not eat at the time but others seemed to be enjoying it. Nice place to just sit outside and relax and enjoy the view and the fresh air on a good day. Children on the small pier enjoying catching small crabs with bait varying from bacon to spam!
