I visited The Castle today with my mum, who is in a wheelchair, the gentleman that looked after us made us feel so welcome and assisted to move mum from her wheelchair to a proper chair, which i like to do to make her feel more comfortable and "normal", it was lovely to get this kind of service and i shall definitely be visiting again. thank you.

Food & drinks were good but yet again despite there being additional staff on duty for the Great Leighs Fete, there weren't enough! Massive queue for drinks

Sadly, we were very disappointed yesterday on our visit. Firstly, the booking that was made hadn’t been registered on the system and it was suggested the remainder of our party were already there when they weren’t. The preferred beer we were offered was then not available. We placed our food order and to our amazement the roast dinners arrived on a side plate with the vegetables in a basin! Given that we’d waited almost an hour for the food the standard wasn’t that great, it was a totally unsatisfactory experience, one we are unlikely to repeat.

Great food and atmosphere. Staff very helpful and friendly, nothing seems to be too much trouble. Would like a few different dessert options as it seems to be mainly made up of cheesecake and cake...although they are delicious.

Good choice menu and reasonably priced wine.(But no list available and limited choice)As good as any pie and pint inn. Nice comfy setting. Picture of food says it all!

Whether it is a restaurant or a pub doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how good the beer or food is. It doesn't matter if the service is decent and the decor is nice.... Having kids run around playing is a major turn off. If the children are bored while the adults want to continue drinking then staff should remind them of their duty as a parent... Control them or take them elsewhere.

I use to love the food here but on our last family Christmas meal the food was terrible! Out of 13 meals 5 had to go back and would never go back again, its a shame that the food has gone down hill. The service itself was excellent but will not be eaten there again.

Fantastic service!! your really couldn't fault the food the staff couldn't do any more than they did very attentive but not overly in your face definitely worth a visit this is on my list fir a return visit!!

Had a Sunday roast here a while ago. Very good. Stopped for a pint returning from Braintree. Lovely sunny day. All the outside woodwork needs treatment including outside tables and chairs. It will make the outside look 100% better.

This is a good place to eat. It takes a bit lo g for your food to arrive but overall a nice place. The old pub area is the oldest (known) registered pub in the country.
