Lovely family meal for a special birthday. Thanks to the attentive staff, great service even though a busy lunchtime. Food was presented well, hot and generous portion. Thank you team we will be back.

Unfortunately as much as the setting is beautiful, it's a shame that the food doesn't live up to the expectations. We ordered a roast sirloin of beef with trimmings and a shepherd's pie with veg. After waiting over an hour for these dishes we were amazed with the small portion sizes ( dread to think what the small plate would of been ). We waited a further 5 minutes for a veg which was a small bowl to share between the 2 meals. What makes it worse was the food wasn't even hot. Definitely not value for money which is a huge shame.

Excellent service and very tasty breakfast. Good selection of food and a fair price. Will be visiting again to try out a Sunday roast.

Lovely venue, right next door to a river with outdoor seating. Inside was roomy and felt nice. Staff, attentive. The food wasn't all that good. Heated up rather than freshly made. All felt a bit mass produced sadly. I had a chicken and tarragon pie which I'm convinced was probably better used as a door stop. Shortcrust pastry was so tough. Chips were greasy, as was the battered fish. This was a "go to" place before covid. Its now an "avoid" for us, sadly.

Went for Sunday lunch with a friend who had visited this pub before but it was a first for me. It was quite busy for a pub that was a little bit out of Chelmsford so make sure you book in advance. I had the beef with Yorkshire pud and my friend had the chicken. It was lovely but a bit too much for me to finish. We did then order the. Chocolate brownie with I e cream but there was no chance of me finishing it, which was a shame because it was delicious. Our waitress was really lovely girl, very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. A lovely afternoon in a glorious setting. Can't wait to go again when the sun is shining and it's warm enough to eat outside.

We went for an evening meal and won't be going back anytime soon. Whilst it's a nice place and our waitress was very polite, the food was poor and vastly overpriced. Starter of chicken tenders priced at ÂŁ7.95 for 2 bits of very average chicken, and calamari was a bit naff too.. I had the seafood linguine from the Specials menu, which was described as fresh from Leigh on Sea at a lofty ÂŁ19.95. It tasted like a boil in the bag that had split. The sauce was all watery and the seafood and scallops had no flavour, just tasted washed out. I couldn't eat it and politely told the waitress, who agreed it looked watery and said she would see about taking it off the bill. We could hear her tell the manager, who evidently deemed it beneath him to come over, better to fob us off and save a few quid. So she came back with our bill with 15% off, obviously uncomfortable. Insult to injury, we then have to wait another 10 minutes to flag someone down to pay for this, which made it worse when you have taken the p', ruined our evening and charged ÂŁ53 for awful food.

Dinner on a Monday evening. The place looks great, lots of space, staff were very welcoming, service was speedy, lots of choice on the menu, we were all pleased with our food - generous portions and very tasty. Sausages and mash with locally produced sausages was delicious. Good portions of healthy vegetables. Would definitely go back.

It was my birthday meal with family. Firstly, we had to wait 1hour and 15minutes for our food. The waiter was quite rude and unprofessional. When we got our food, it was basic and didn’t reflect the prices charged at all. The chips were still frozen, the chicken was dry. It was tasteless. It was a real let down for a meal out to celebrate an occasion!.I wouldn’t recommend. Despite the fact it was busy!. The service was poor and unfriendly and this pub has always had a good review and we have visited lots in the past but we won’t be returning.

Noticed this beautiful looking place whilst driving past.. Decided to stop by for lunch on our way back.On entering, first impressions were good.Period building, with lovely wooden beams and furnishings to match.Several patrons both inside and outside, so obviously a very popular eating and drinking place. We were quickly attended to by a friendly waitress who asked if we'd booked a table. We said we hadn't, but were offered a table immediately, with the only condition that we vacate the table before 1930.This wasn't a problem as it gave us an easy 90 mins. Our order for starters was taken and was promptly served. My girlfriend had a delicious homemade soup and I tried the Leigh on_sea battered cockles.Although the soup was lovely, my starter only tasted of batter balls which was a disappointment. For our Mains I ordered a ploughman's lunch and my girlfriend ordered the small steak and ale pie with mash and peas. Unfortunately the supplied gravy wasn't nearly enough so she had to ask for more.Being picky, I must say I found it necessary to ask for a fork to eat my ploughman's, finding it strange I wasn't supplied with one.The ale that was recommended was beautiful and would have enjoyed more, if I hadn't been driving.Having said all of that, I must say I was very impressed with the manageress when she deducted the price of the battered cockles from the bill which was ÂŁ6Overall we found it to be a very enjoyable meal in a very warm and friendly atmosphere and wouldn't hesitate in recommending to anyone passing by in the picturesque village of Roxwell.
