The Lion Inn in Chelmsford

We’ve just had another excellent Sunday lunch at The Lion. Their roast pork is sublime! The place is warm and welcoming with excellent service. You need to get here early on a Sunday as it’s very popular and you may have to wait a while. A real find.

Attended a party night, staff were great and the food was excellent. Stopped over in a very comfy room and had a lovely breakfast the following morning. Will definitely go back to the restaurant for a meal. Would recommend 🙂

We had a delicious lunch, chosen from varied menu and served by a friendly helpful waitress. The atmosphere was relaxed and we were able to move to the sofa after lunch to continue our conversation.Recommend for a nice lunch.

We booked a table at half past 7 and arrived about 5 minutes early but wasn't a problem and was seated straight away, however we didn't have our order taken for around 20 minutes and then didn't receive our drinks until 7.55 so we had been seated around 30 minutes at that point.We had tickets booked for the comedy at 9 however due to the wait for ordering our food we were very rushed so ordered our desserts immediately when we finally received our main courses to make sure we wouldn't over run.The food was absolutely delicious, and we couldn't say a bad word about any of the dishes we had however we didn't see a single smile from any of the staff, they were very robotic and no pleasantries even a hello or apologies about the wait just asked what we wanted to order. We had been sitting there with menus infront of us and no drinks on the table for over 20 minutes and none of the staff walking past were even looking in our direction to notice.When we came to pay the bill we were not going to tip due to finding the service very poor however the waitress never returned with our change and therefore she must have just assumed it was a tip and kept it. I would normally always leave a tip especially how much we enjoyed the food but not when we found the service like this but it would have been awkward to go to the bar and ask for it back.It is a shame that the service let's this place down because the food was amazing.

Perfection and more.... We had a business meeting last week and everyone loved the place. Food was great. Rooms were great. service was amazing. Can't fault it

Serving staff are excellent, quality of food is good and reasonably priced. For the amount of covers they turn at peak times, pretty good. Will try again the Fish and Chips looked amazing.

Great place, loads of staff to deliver fast efficient service. I had the largest rack of ribs ive ever seen. The wife had the fish pie, which was great as well. Its nice to visit somewhere that is busy but so well organised. Drinks are expensive but they are everywhere nowadays. Cant wait to go again, there is also a specials board bustling with extra choice. Wish I'd had room for desert. Oh well, next time for sure 😋😋

Great food and good service. The place is usually busy but despite that the service never fails. Food arrives promptly and the wait staff are always attentive. One of our regular places to eat.

Well what can I say other than a massive Thank you to Georgina and all the staff that helped make our wedding the most amazing day of our lives. The venue is superb, elegant yet simplistic, warm and inviting. The same can be said about that of the main restaurant and hotel also. This is an absolute gem of a business with a fantastic team to match.The food and service is brilliant and was enjoyed by all of our guests that attended.Hope to visit again one day soon.

Absolutely blew my mind! Didn't even know this place was so close, tried it for the first time and everything was impeccable. Proper French style service, a ranged and excellent cuisine with a great range of specials.An exhaustive wine list and every cocktail you could ask for! Not to mention fantastic atmosphere and decor.We will be back!
