The Old Kings Head Restaurant in Chelmsford

We visited The Old Kings Head today before driving home, after being recommended it by some people who live locally. We didn’t reserve a table (maybe we should have) but the staff were very welcoming and found somewhere for us to sit. We had a pork roast each and a portion of cauliflower cheese, which tasted great. The presentation was really nice too. Service was fast and very polite. The only downside was the car park, which was nearly full - but I guess it was very busy. Great place for a Sunday roast!

Speedy and friendly service. Meals were piping hot, very well presented with ample portions. Very reasonable prices. We never felt any pressure to leave once we had finished our meal. We as a group have decided to make this our regular rendezvous.

Lovely afternoon lunch at the Old Kings Head. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Dog and child friendly without distracting from a pub atmosphere. The food was exceptional and very reasonably priced. (We actually checked the bill to make sure they had added everything!) highly recommended.

Nice staff and lovely places to sit and snuggle up. Food is always superb. Thanks guys. Been here 1 or 2 times a week to eat and drink. Love upstairs too and the garden terraces are great in the summer and spring. Even through the hight of the pandemic the marquee/ outside eating was really good

Easily one of the best burgers in Essex.Went there hoping to have one of the chicken burgers they did when we went in previously only to find out they had stopped doing them. Decided to have a beef burger whilst I was there and it's easily one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Chips were also spot on and the lager (Moretti) was spot on too (beer lines get cleaned regularly and properly by the look of it).Staff are also extremely friendly and APPROACHABLE. The place is extremely clean and isn't overly expensive.Wouldn't hesitate in going here again.(PLEASE BRING BACK THE CHICKEN BURGER!)

Went here 23 of February 8.30pm not very busy,food very good had sharing board of anticipate, king prawn Thai curry and my friend had cod and chips all very nice , certainly worth a visit, they have a large outside seating area which looked great for spring and summer evening dining, plenty of parking. give it a try .

We popped in for lunch. Really nice welcome and great food. The place has a country pub feel. Looking forward to going back for an evening meal and in the summer to the outdoor bar !

Five of us visited this pub last month for lunch. There is ample parking but on a summer’s day it is a pleasant walk to the pub.The pub looks deceptively small but it is quite large inside. The decor is pleasant.There was decent choice of food and drinks on the menu.Service was friendly, prompt but unhurried. Food was well made and presented.I would certainly recommend this place for individuals and families.

We booked a table to head for a late lunch after a long walk through the beautiful surrounding countryside. Staff were friendly and a quick service was provided from start to finish. Was impressed with the vegan option of roasted cauliflower and hassleback potatoes which was divine!

Visited this recently refurbished pub for Sunday lunch. Never went before to know what it was like but its been refurbished to a high standard. Very smart and modern while keeping what look like original features.As many other reviewers have said, the food here is good. The Sunday roast was hot, a good size and tasty.Some aspects of the service are still being worked out we sensed. Staff were friendly but we had issues with the right food being brought, what food was available and the bill. Nothing significant but again I think this chimes with other reviews. This should be an easy thing to address.There is a reasonable amount of car parking available and a small outdoor space.
