The Old Windmill in Chelmsford

Gorgeous pub in the middle of a picturesque little country road. They make a fantastic cappucino and their Sunday lunch looks amazing - we didn't eat but we will definitely be going back again to do so! Helpful, friendly staff too. ♡♡♡

Went for dinner on bank holiday Monday with friends. On arrival the restaurant was jampacked but we were shown to our table and attended to in good time.We all have different meals and everyone of them was delicious.I had the cheese and onion pie which was gorgeous.Desserts were equally as tasty and we will definitely be back to try other things on the menu.I would like to highlight how hard the staff were working. As I said it was full to the rafters and half the bar was laden with glasses waiting to be washed. Where our table was situated we could see a young man who tirelessly cleared those glasses. Non-stop.The staff are all pleasant and polite and obviously have good management and good training

This pub is only a few miles away from where we live what a suprise it was super venue very much family orientation,but the staff were excellent with the food being very good really worth a visit it's also got a lovely sunny garden.

Friendly service but the vegetables and Yorkshire puddings were cold

Was a visit to celebrate a special wedding anniversary. Arrived to be told our booking had been cancelled in error. Still, staff were helpful and managed to find space for us. Had to return several meals as they arrived cold.

Booked online for Monday lunch. The front of house staff was great. Very attentive and friendly. Drinks order taken quickly and without being pushy. Food order was taken without us having to seek out staff. Our food was brought in good time too. Both meals of lamb shoulder with dauphinois potatoes & steak and ale pie with mash were very tasty and hot. Waiting staff checked twice to check that our food was ok and to ask if more drinks were needed. This is a great pub/restaurant that we’ve been coming to for a number of years and is doing things right. Please don’t change what you’re doing, you’re doing it well.

Really lovely pub. Friendly staff and really good food with good sized portions. The steak and ale pie was excellent and the hot waffle was superb. Will definitely be returning! Also dog friendly which is a bonus.

Visited today as a large group; 6 adults, 5 children and a dog. Very accommodating, nothing was too much for them and most importantly the food was delicious. We booked there and then to return again for a family members birthday.Will definitely be returning in the summer as had outdoor tent/seating area with a lovely garden for kids to run about. All in all a great place to visit after a walk around Norsey Woods.

Recommended by a family member The Old Windmill didn't disappoint. Good atmosphere, quite busy when we visited, booking was a must. The rustic feel from the 18th century aesthetic and decorations made the Christmas vibe all the more pleasing. The meals were well portioned and very tasty, one of our party is Vegan, all were catered for. We felt looked after, staff were friendly and the service was prompt. Only slight niggle was a Steak and Ale pie had mushrooms in but wasn't mentioned on the menu.

really recommend doing the drive past the reservoir at sunset and then coming here for an evening. amazing historical pub in such a cute little area and really good food and drink
