Had fish and chips and pie and chips. Both fish and pie was nice . Chips how ever taste as if they had been sitting a while. dry and hard . Quite disappointing for a chip shop.

Food was good, both fish & chicken burgers, took 20 mins to get ready & large size chips not very generous

Parked right outside. Lovely and clean inside with pleasant presentation. I was served today by Josh who was very helpful. Been going here on and off since I was a child. I used to know it as Peggotty’s (not sure of spelling). Thanks👍🏻

2nd delivered order now that has been wrong ! This time only half of the food was delivered. Had to wait 20 mins for the re order. First time I never complained but this time I did. Won’t use again.

St Johns last two weeks been awful. Not sure if they changed the cook. Gutted. Chips undercooked. Last week burnt. How I have no idea. Still served though.Southern fried chicken normally amazing. Last couple of weeks horrendous. Batter is thin, salty and too hard to eat. Two stars are based on friendly as always staff.Sack the chef, disappointing after all these years I may have to go to KFC.

Absolutely solid chippy, and lovely staff/owners - definitely try it!I've been here numerous times now, they have the classic selection you'd expect from a chip shop, plus occasional seasonal extras (E.g. Pigs in blankets). They also have a delicious vegan burger for those so inclined. The staff have always been extremely nice, cheerful and attentive. Lovely food, great people - what's not to love?

The best fish and chips in Colchester. My opinion..... love their packaging. Quality ingredients cooked perfectly.

A week ago I ordered a large haddock and when I got home to eat it ,my wife and I felt that something was strange, like it wasn’t the normal taste, then we actually realised that it was a cod and not a haddock. I made a complaint on the official website and the personal there wrote back to me, apologising and asking if it’s ok the send a voucher that I can use on my next order . Today I went in to use my voucher and the shop manager had a go at me ,asking me if I know the difference between a cod and a haddock, telling me that I was served a haddock on that day, basically calling me a liar on my face .I have been until today a regular customer of this place, meaning I know what I eat and how it should taste, and even if I was served a haddock on that day, that fish was made wrong and it tasted bad ,but just because I use a voucher today, that didn’t give the right to the guy to start questioning me with humiliation purposes. It was my right to complain if something was wrong ,and it was the managing decision to send me that voucher for me to use,but he had no right to confront me on anything because that is not why he is there.I ended up leaving the order there, not taking it,with the promise of not stepping in there anymore. They might have good food but if people are like that then they might as well close the shop.Went to Wivenhoe for one after that although I leave 3 min away from this shop ....Also sometimes you pay for normal chips and you get half a portionThank you
