We were treated to afternoon tea at the George Hotel by our lovely daughters as a Christmas present. It was a wonderful treat. Although booking was a bit difficult - I believe that there were temporary difficulties with the website - once we got through to the right person it was all sorted out very quickly. Really lovely service and a fabulous tea with some superb delicacies. Very imaginative and extremely tasty. A wonderful selection of herbal teas, tea-based cocktails - the one I had was extremely potent! and other beverages. Very good service. We were looked after but it wasn’t over-bearing. I would thoroughly recommend this as a really lovely, enjoyable treatespecially if you want to spoil someone special.

Beautiful room, with a comfy bed.... didn't want to leave! Had dinner in the restaurant, delicious! Pigeon breast starter, venison main and an apple and plum crumble..... which was amazing! The service was excellent. Would definitely return for a special occasion.

Just spent a great Valentine's overnight stay. Lovely 15th century venue and very good value. The food was excellent and the menu was very varied. Our waitress Elise was very helpful and attentive. We have also sampled the afternoon tea which is very yummy and the restaurant is very attractive with a beautiful pink flower theme.

Such a creative and eccentric hotel, every corner of this hotel is beautiful in such a unique way. Rooms are cozy and just perfect! Staff are so friendly and welcoming. The Bar and restaurant staff are also fantastic! Really love this place

Last night I visited the George for a meal as part of a table of 8. On arrival the welcome and the overall feel to the hotel was lovely. However the quality of the food for the money was very average. My chicken terrine starter was absolutely full of gristle and my wife found her mackerel inedible.Others on the table ordered the 8oz fillet and me being ravenous went for the 12oz rib eye @£30. I was devastated to find my steak was half the size of the 8oz fillet! I appreciate this is an uncooked weight but I Do not expect a steak to shrink this much.Crumble for pudding was stone cold.Staff couldn’t seem to give a monkeys on informing them just giving a “sorry about that”Staff seemed very under pressure and unhappy, towards the end of the night literally throwing our desert cutlery at us and then as if by magic became a lot more friendly when it was time to pay the bill! All in all a pretty disappointing experience when we could have gone to Milsoms and spent the same amount for a FAR better experience.I hope this is a one off but having got no where with my complaint to staff I feel this is my only option to get my point across.Only reason for a two star is because my wife enjoyed her main meal.

Exceptionally clean rooms, excellent staff in bar, restaurant and reception. Also the hotel is steeped in history and has the original wall and art work on display, the decor is beautiful.I think for me, the chef made my stay wonderful too. I had the fish late Sunday night (nothing was a bother to the staff they were amazing)and it was cooked to perfection . Thank you to everyone of the staff at the hotel who made my stay perfect.

Celebrated our daughters 21st in the private function room. The Tudor room. Amazing venue, top class staff and service. Food was perfect. Lucy the events manager covered everything including recommendations for balloon decorations. Well done the George hotel and all the staff. Thank you 😊

Went for lunch in the restaurant. Absolutely on point service, really nice atmosphere and lovely small menu. We let them know they served a pint in a dirty glass and they sorted it so quickly and took it off the bill without any fuss which I thought was really good service. Food was fantastic even thought they were very busy. Two main meals with drinks for around £30, I was surprised it was such a reasonable price. Would definitely come again, thank you!

Really lovely refurbishment of what was an already lovely building. It's great that the original features have been retained and accentuated. We had lovely cocktails and draft beers. Staff were professional and helpful. Slightly spoilt by someone having a conversation on their phone that everyone could hear for half an hour. Suggest headphones?
