Le Talbooth in Colchester

Expensive, very expensive, but it is worth it. I think that this is almost at the standard of a Michelin star, but my wife (who knows far more about food than me) thinks that it is there already. The service is excellent but if it is to get that star there are just a few very very minor things to sort, notably remembering which guest ordered which dish. We will definitely return for another special occasion.

I dined here a few years ago, on a Friday evening, I recall.The quality of the food was exquisite.The wine waiter recommended several bottles of different wines which would complement our meal.All the staff were warm and welcoming.Would I like to dine here again?Yes of course!

We were having a great night, until right at the end of our service. I really enjoyed the quince jelly from the desert menu, which I wanted to take home. When I asked to take it home, I was made to feel like I was asking for the world, I was actually laughed at by “Katie” one of the general managers, who quote said, “really?” Apparently she has been asked for many weird requests, quince jelly being one to add to the list.Considering the fact they have 3 rosette’s, if someone asks to take something home, that they have paid for, they should not be made to feel embarrassed or that they have asked for something untoward.Let me also mention, the wines were decanted out of sight and we poured every single drop of our two bottles of wine and water ourselves. Which is rather disappointing for 3 rosettes.There was a fly bouncing between four tables all night, which was rather annoying and off-putting, because every plate that came out, it flew onto the food. Our neighbouring table made a comment about it to one of the runners and they just laughed about it.Overall, the food was great, the wine selection was great value for money and plenty to choose from. “Mark” one of the servers was very friendly, sommelier was knowledgeable about the wine and had passion. However the rest of the service was below average and felt cold.

Friendly, professional welcome, great attention by staff, no pressure.All four courses were superb.My only criticism - this is fine dining, but no fish cutlery was offered for the stone bass dish, and no dessert forks with the dessert spoons.If it had been me having the fish I would have asked for fish cutlery, but it was my husband and he didn't want to ask.I have strong views about letting standards drop, especially at this level.

It was a first visit to the restaurant & we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. For mains we had the beef which was superb, cooked exactly how we like it. The staff were very friendly, would have given 5 stars but our dessert order didn't get put through, so bit of a wait. We didn't mind too much as they kindly supplied us with a free drink. Worth a visit, especially for those special occasions.

Nearly always an outstanding experience at Le Talbooth.All of the food for our party of six was excellent and the wine fantastic too. A balanced choice of dishes, an extensive wine list and sommelier on hand to help navigate proceedings if you're a little less confident or are interested in trying something new. Just a shame we drank them out of Margaux on this occasion!We would thoroughly recommend anyone looking for a special evening.Be prepared to pay around £100 per head for a three course meal and much more if you have an expensive taste in wine.

So it was a lovely setting and can't fault the service. Food was lush ( could have been more but I'm a greedy goat and love a spud, or 4,on my roast!) Disappointing veggie menu but luckily I will eat chicken.. its pretty pricey, but can't say it wasn't lovely. Was a little shocked at the dust and cobwebs on the chandeliers above the table. However all in all a nice meal

Faultless food and service in a very pleasant setting. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Wonderful place that I would highly recommend.

Fabulous! The setting is absolutely delightful, very scenic especially on the beautiful sunny evening that we were there.We arrived early and peacefully stood by the River taking in the lovely relaxing atmosphere.Drinks and Canapés were served on the Lawn the Canapés being particularly good especially👌the Duck!Later we were shown into the Marquee which was most tastefully laid with lovely white linen and flowers arranged by our Friend Sharon . There were lots of photos of Sharon's Husband Kevin as We were there to Celebrate His Life!What a Celebration it was. The Barbeque was delicious. I couldn't resist the Hog Roast, so many choices though and the Staff were very attentative throughout.The Talbooth had Lovingly been chosen for the evening because it was Kevin and Sharon's Favourite and You certainly felt the Love that Night. This place is so beautiful. We live an hour away but are more than happy to do the 2 hour round-trip for their lunch. The food is delicious and the setting is stunning. Staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. Well worth a visit.
