Roo's in Colchester

Disappointing meal - usually v good. Duck overcooked and dry (had to ask for some more jus) ditto gratin dauphinois-more like a tortilla. Service good but Saturdays perhaps better avoided.

The most delicious meal for ages. Staff were welcoming, efficient and very friendly. We returned (from California) to this restaurant on July 4th, exactly 4 years after our last stay in the adjoining hotel. We loved it the first time: were ecstatic this time!I had the Arctic Char with all the perfect accompaniments, grilled fennel pomegranate sauce etc. Then the roasted banana cheesecake with powdered peanuts etc.So many careful touches. And choosing Estrella non alcoholic became a new favoriteThese people are a great experience the exterior is mellow- but go in and you and your stomach will rejoice

Good food, ok service, (has been better in the past)Haven't been to the Green Room for a couple of years, but missed the sofas etc in reception. The place didn't seem to have the same feel that it used to.

We visited The Green Room for Sunday lunch today and had a really lovely time. The food was amazing! everything was cooked to perfection, we couldn’t fault anything at all. The staff, in particular Will, Holly & Kiera were all super friendly and attentive and made us feel welcomed. A fantastic place to eat with great service, we will return again soon!

Delicious food and friendly service, particularly as I was a bit anxious about dining alone. Asked where I'd feel comfortable to be seated, staff very attentive. Food was excellent.

Hubby had a Father's Day celebration of great British cuisine at reasonable price. Friendly staff, quick service and comes highly recommended! 👍

LOVED this place! High quality and broad menu while also having traditional British food. Went here for a date, we started with a cheese plate, split their two different pot pies, and ended with their toffee pudding. Absolutely delicious and so reasonably priced! Can’t wait to go back.

We had a nice little private area just as you come in close to the bar. Our waitress was very friendly and the food was excellent. Good wine list so will be a nice place for winter drinks.

With family down we thought we would try somewhere we hadn't been before and the Green Room had been recommended to us - we went on a sunday afternoon.The place is tidy / clean and staff were nice and friendly. We got seated and got drinks, some got starters and others just got mains. A few of the options on the menu are on slightly more expensive side, particularly on starters but generally not too badly priced. Was a bit worried about paying 6 quid for kids meals as I hate paying for them to only then have 2 or 3 bites, but it turned out they were free with a paying adult meal!Food was very nice, some of us had roast dinners with choice of either beef or chicken. I think we all enjoyed it!Not quite the full 5 stars as we had a rather excessive wait between starters and mains, to the extent that kids (1 and 3) had finished their meals which came out with starters before mains turned up - they really are not fast eaters!! Not end of the world stuff... but was our experience.Can't comment on desert as everyone was too full to try anything!!Worth a vist if you are looking for a nice place that is not a chain restaurant etc.
