This busy, popular pub in Wivenhoe serves real ale as well as the usual lagers, wine, etc. There are three steps at the door and a few more inside so not especially wheelchair friendly but it is located opposite a car park so easy to get to if you're driving. The bar is dog-friendly and the staff were all welcoming and helpful. We had a meal, and the food was very good. We will be back. Recommended.

It was quite cold in here Friday lunch time . It was a cold and bright sunny day but I felt it could have been warmer. There's lots of seating in here, but where we sat you could hear the hand dryer going on in the toilets. I really think they should be replaced with paper towel as it was quite distracting.Anyway, the Staff in here are exceptional. The service was good and our Lunch was very nice. In the Summer their Beer Garden is absolutely great and this is where they really excel. There is good Parking in the Public Car Park opposite.

Lovely food, good service we had our Christmas meal in the upstairs dinning area which was nicely set out and comfortable.

Great choice of beers. Appeared popular place for locals. Good seating area outdoors as well as in 😊

Great pub from the landlord down! Great staff, great atmosphere, great food, great selection of beers & ciders, beautiful garden for those lovely summer afternoon sessions and warm & cozy in the bar on crisp winter days with the open fire and wingback chairs

Just starting to eat out after everything and what a start! Just popped in for lunch with the idea of having a pint and a sandwich - the menu was extensive but not too complicated, with a range of mains and light bites. Obviously, once I saw that there was a Club sandwich I was sold! Whilst waiting, the server was attentive and the quirkiness/charm of the pub was quintessentially small esturary town so would be a fantastic bolthole in the winter.Food arrived and it was spot-on - the Club had a fried egg nestled in which was proper tasty; the rest of the table had a really fresh fish 'finger' sandwich and a gooey brie, bacon and cranberry sandwich which were both brilliant.I will definitely be returning as if this is the calibre of lunches, then the Sunday roasts must be divine.

Didn't have any food so can't give 5 stars, but the beer was in perfect condition and the pub itself is gorgeous.

First time in here and the pub side of it was really nice. Lovely fireplace with a wing back chair if you fancy it.They have a little garden out the back although it was off limits when we went. The food was alot better than I'd expected to be honest. Didn't seem to be the run of the mill food I'd assumed it would be. The antipasti was lovely and we had some whitebait just to add something else to the table, very pleased! We will be back for sure.
