Visited three times now, can't fault it. Dog friendly, great beer and the food is decent too. Great variety on the menu and you don't have to wait very long even when it's busy. Water bowl for the dog and treats on the bar so everyone gets VIP treatment.

amazing staff, lovely atmosphere. great selection of food and drinks. a nice pub in the middle of a busy town.

·

Lovely spacious and relax also had smoking area from outside only, just feel like chill old vibe or hibby style and there alot different brew of beer and rum as I like it. Worth foe hangout with friends for chill place

Local pub serving food and drink. Lots of seating inside along with a small beer garden and smoking area.Located just off the pedestrian shopping area. Purple dog offers a good mix of food to go with any drink. Whether meeting up with friends or a night out with the better half. A good place to start the evening or stop off for lunch with good food at a reasonable price.

Been to about 6 pubs in town this is the best so far followed by the castle. I haven't eaten here but the food looks great. It also has a nice cosy area to eat so yes very nice

·

Not the cleanest place but great atmosphere and drinks! The food is surprisingly good too and very reasonably priced. Could do with some more attention to the toilets.

From reading previous comments, i think either they have changed chefs within the last couple of days or the chef wasnt feeling very well today. My mother and I had a roast dinner and my daughter and dad had a burger( which is the only reason i gave 2 stars as the burgers looked ok).The roast potatoes were cold and tasted old, as if the had been cooked the day before and microwaved today. My roast beef was was almost cold, and the cauliflower cheese was was microwaved. My mothers potatoes were the same and her chicken was also not hot. We had ti send her Yorkshire pudding back as it was really burnt black, and when it came back it was the same Yorkshire pudding with some if the burnt bits scraped off. Altogether very poor. The tables either side of us also complained about similar issues. They had the benefit of being having eatem there before and told us that normally it was nice before but they'd changed chefs. This was our first time and with so many other places to choose from in Colchester i wouldn't come here again.I am a chef and would be mortified if food like that left my kitchen

Friendly staff. Sunday lunch was ok, seriously undercooked carrots and end's of cabbage, actually crunchy. Beef was beautiful though. Lovely Beers on tap too. Advice. Go early for Sunday lunch

Very kind and attentive staff! We had some hard time to find a place for a drink (coming from London) and it seemed like they couldn't give a table for us, but even after rejected, they shouted out for us to come back as a table freed. Bit cold bar but food was excellent and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommend it!
