The Shepherd in Langham in Colchester

We arrived at short notice for an evening meal following a family funeral (party of 10 diners). Staff were really welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Fabulous food. A big thank you - will definitely come again.

Lovely staff but service quite slow. Nice atmosphere and nice contemporary decor. Food OK but nothing special.

Food was really poor - not much flavour and not what you expect from a gastro pub - shepherds pie wasn’t traditional, blue cheese sauce with the steak was odd, peri peri fries were powdery in the mouth. Could do with just doing traditional food well. They were also missing any form of light options from the menu - no salad at all and the salad that came with the starter was plain and with no dressing.Service wasn’t great. We waited 20 minutes for our food to be cleared then had to ask the servers to clear it. Also ordered g&t and it came with no garnish - not even a wedge of lime or lemon. We also had no cutlery when the mains were served and then had to wait a few minutes for cutlery and even longer for steak knives! The servers were pretty poor at basic steps of service - the only kind server who was trying was the new blonde server.Only positive was live music which was good.

I thought the food was overpriced . Very small portion of chips . £15 for most things on the limited menu . My daughter in laws cod and chips looked like a “pensioners meal” the other three adults had burgers all food tasted ok kids meals were £9 each half a small pizza beans chips and one scoop of ice cream .I will say though it was very clean and the staff were friendly . Toilet facilities perfect just pop in for a drink then you won’t be disappointed

Last night I had the best shepherd's pie of my life (sorry mum) at the shepherd. So glad this pub is back!

Lovely place with delicious food. Staff are friendly and even offered food off the menu for fussy child. Would definitely recommend as a family

Food was amazing, staff was also amazing, it had that homly feeling that is missing in alot of pubs these days.

First time at this pub but it definitely deserves a great review. Very clean and modern decor. Service very lovely and polite. Food is just great! Little gem really! Starter: spicy couliflower soup was just heaven! Will be visiting again! Thank you for lovely experience!
