Nice location, lovely building but smaller inside than the outside suggests , limited selection of beers and set up more as a resteruant than a pub, menu could do with updating , costly but the outside spaces are very pleasent. Friendly staff .

Friendly village pub/restaurant. Out of the way from general traffic. Very much relied upon by locals who clearly love it as they were booked out. Fantastic to see.

Just got back from lunch at The Whalebone. Haven't been there for many years. How beautiful it is, hard to decide whether to eat inside or outside, fantastic atmosphere. What lovely ladies who serve you. Food was amazing. Definitely worth the small drive out of Colchester to experience. Fingringhoe is a beautiful village to explore and there is The Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Park very close, so lots to see and do and have a meal and a drink as well.

I cycled here from Colchester on a a sunny afternoon in October. We sat outside and had a good pint before moving off to the next watering hole. The location is lovely, with views down to the Roman River Valley. I had already eaten elsewhere, so didn't sample the food. The menu looked good though. I need to come back for a meal before I can get a fuller feel for the place.

Beautiful evening vista whilst dining in a private pavilion. The ambience and service is impeccable. Cuisine is something else...absolutely exquisite. Would highly recommend all day long and cannot wait for the next visit.

Lovely English pub with a gorgeous pub garden to the side and a nice open fireplace inside. The food was great, particularly the beef mince pie and chips. So good.

Very quaint, cozy and comfortable. They had several local beers on draft. The baked camabert with currant jelly was a perfect start. The lamb roast with Yorkshire pudding was incredible. Be sure to ask for the mint sauce. For dessert, the fruit crumble with "perfect custard" was amazing!
