Can’t believe this place closed down because of covid, it wasn’t the best quality but it was the closest place for fish and chips

Second time I've placed a large order for my company staff lunch. The staff are very helpful and accommodate at short notice. The food was cooked fresh and very tasty, all the staff commented on the quality of the fish. Highly recommend

Consistently tasty chips, great prices, speedy service. Has tasted nice on every occasion. Plus easy to park.

When will this shocking establishment learn. I've left it over year since I've eaten there and its still the worst fish and chip shop in hemel after just purchased small fish and chips.Chips limp hardly chunky more like slithers of potato peeling deep fried and crackling bits.The small fish was oversized fish finger in reality, although fish tasted reasonable only and that's only positive ie was just ok to eat,isn't really cutting it.It's like they want it to fail..wierd 🤷‍♂️

Got a portion of chips today. Took them back as after opening them up, they had over 10 baby flies in. The manager did apologies and refund me but I feel so sick now. Won't use this chip shop again. Took loads of pictures as well as taking the chips back to show the manager who agreed he could see baby flies in the chips.

When I moved to Hemel Hempstead, Barkers was an award winning establishment. I don't know what the award was nor when it was awarded but I doubt that they would win one now.When my girlfriend and I ate from there a wee while ago we waited inside for around 15 minutes whilst they cooked a fresh batch of chips which, when fresh out of the frier, were soft and mushy. My girlfriend ordered large cod, which was medium at best, the spring rolls were disappointingly bland and the whole experience was well below par. The meal wasn't even reasonably priced, which would have taken the edge off the disappointment.I am sorry to say, I can no longer recommend Barkers.

Used to be nice but has been very disappointing lately .I got chips on the way home from work the other night and the chips were not as nice as they used to be and I wasn't asked what size portion of chips I wanted the lad who served me didn't even ask if I wanted salt and vinegar on them . I had a lady waiting behind me who was waiting to omplain about fish and chips she had brought and she said the large cod she asked for was the size of a small . Does look like overy charging and not taking notice of what people have ordered .I can see customers going else where for fish and chips which is a shame because in the past the food has been great.Shape up or you will lose custom .

This is not a fish and chip shop. This is obviously a chicken shop. Large cod was small and dry, think it had been there since yesterday. Chips were brown and tasted odd wet and soggy. Won't be coming back. Unfortunate as the staff are quite friendly.

Normally really nice from here but today it was awful! Chips were undercooked and tasted horrible, my daughters fish cake was so hard it wasnt edible and the chicken was so shrivelled up it looks like it had been there from yesterday. Definitely will not be going back

This is my most local chippy and I used to use once every other month with no problems - the portions are reasonably sized and at a fair price. However on the last few occasions I've arrived home to find chips and fish stuck to paper it was wrapped in and the last time so bad that there was hardly any fish left to go on the plate once it'd been torn away from the paper. Haven't used it since.
