Service was OK, however we ordered a sharing platter, which was supposed to include Brie, which was a tiny piece and could have been eaten in 1 mouthful, together with bread, ham 1 slice to share?? In other words bad value for money at over £16. We cancelled this. Then we ordered mains. My daughter chose the vegetarian option. All other meals had some sort if potatoes and she asked if potatoes were included in her option. They said she would have to pay extra for a side so she asked for potatoes wedges, which I had with jy fish dish. They said she could only have chips. All in all, not a good experience and we won't be going back.

Great location in quaint little town stunning views and great for rambling and cycling extremely friendly and welcoming staff.Good food and don't miss out on the full English breakfast if you happen to stay overnight.comfortable rooms with tea and coffee making facilities in rooms.Large coved outdoor area for drinking and dining.

Lovely 15th century village pub only 30 miles from London. Good beer and good food, with friendly staff. Plenty of seating inside and out. Charming front bar with inglenook fireplace, tastefully modernised interior. Look out for the village stocks alongside the village pond, just outside the pub.

This review is for the pub, not the rooms. I hate leaving bad reviews, but the service from the blond young lady (no tag or name on the receipt) was borderline rude and racist with us and noticed the same with an Asian family behind us, not the other tables though; all the other servers were nice. We were not offered any salt, pepper or sauce while she took our orders in a patronising way. Food was ok, overpriced I would say, probably because of the area, but with average food and poor service for sure we won't come back when in the area, a shame as location is good around Ashridge estate.

Looks like a traditional English village pub from the outside (as it should be in this beautiful village), but it's been modernised inside, so it looks like a modem London restaurant instead. Very disappointed. On the plus side, the beer was good.

Service and food was very good. Menu could offer more choice and was on the expensive side. Saying that, portion size was more than adequate. Location fantastic, very scenic village.

Just come here for a drink after walking the Ashridge boundary trail. Got served really quickly and they were very helpful. It's order at the table only and they have a good range of drinks.

Went for a meal in this pub after not being here for a few years….. what has happened??? The pub was more like a scout hut and the furniture looks like it comes from a charity shop. Don’t like the idea of muddy wet dogs sat next to you whilst eating a meal either. The food used to be very good also but that’s also gone down hill. The fish cake was so over cooked it was extremely dry, side salad was ok. My husband ordered the chicken breast and the plate was swimming in the sauce. Really disappointed. The young guy who served us was very nice and efficient though. Such a shame is the location is beautiful but we won’t be returning any time soon.

Disappointed. Felt like fast food. Quick turnaround but no real service. Roast beef was over cooked and not enough gravy. Had chocolate cheesecake for dessert which was their ‘special’, completely gone off and smelt like sick. We told the staff and they took it away but nothing else was offered and nobody came to apologise. Don’t waste your money here, there are plenty more lovely pubs in the area which do MUCH better food.

Was able to get a table outside on a busy Sunday. Had a Ploughman's platter, which could be either for one or sharing, depending how hungry you are. Service was fast and friendly. Dog friendly.
