The food was good, as was the service. However, 2 gripes. (1) the ladies' toilets were out of order so ladies had to use the disabled toilet which needed a key. No-one was easily available to get this. Added to this it later transpired there were 2 keys (duh?) so someone attempted to enter while the toilet was occupied. (2) When paying the bill I was asked to present my card to pay the total without being given an itemised bill. As the total was MUCH larger than expected I asked to see my bill before paying. Another table's purchases were in the middle of the items we'd purchased. When I pointed this out the waitress at the till (not the one who'd served us) said "Oh, we're having a few problems with our tills" and corrected the amount (virtually halving it). If you know you're having trouble with your tills it would be better to print bills and ask customers to check them before asking for payment. I'm afraid the whole experience resulted in my leaving no tip.

We popped in here on a whim and were lucky enough to be seated without a reservation in the restaurant. Great central location and friendly staff. We had no regrets with our choice of Mac 'N' Cheese and Lamb Shoulder. Sadly too full to sample the dessert menu!

Nice central hotel, comfortable bed and pleasant room. Bar/restaurant very popular with locals. Reasonable prices. All sights within easy walking distance: cathedral, stained glass museum and Oliver Cromwell's house.

Nice friendly staff and a beautiful building. We could not get any hot water to come through our shower and that was the same story from 2 other guests in other rooms. The food in the restaurant was microwave style food and not the best. Fizz Friday was fantastic at £10 a bottle and the atmosphere in the bar was very good.

On this occasion we did not enjoy our stay what so ever,Kitchen closed so no food available ( not informed during the reservation process ).No room service available.Tried to purchase a coffee from the bar at 9.00 PM told non available due to machine cleaned and closed down. Told to go to room and make it ! Eventually offered a cup of instant coffee. No night manager available. As a regular guest at the hotel we were very disappointed on this visit. On the plus side the room was adequate and the bathroom excellent although the fan did not seem to work ( reason for comment regarding the night manager ).

Stayed the night on Christmas Eve. Great dinner and very, very friendly and helpful staff. 10 out of 10 !!!!Room big and airy. A USB charging socket would be useful and a simpler WIFI connection would be nice. All in all very enjoyable.

Amazing generous portions and the most friendly staff who were chatty and caring. Loved it and so did the dogs :) thanks

In the very centre of this historic town this is a hotel of choice. My room was well appointed with a comfy bed and really nice bathroom. I spent a lot of my stay looking around town but at the end of a day of sightseeing there's a nice bar to chill out in. My only point would be a couple of ales on tap given the excellent brewing heritage in the locality... Calverleys and Fellows being amongst them. The breakfast was really nice. Finally a big thanks to all the staff involved in a great stay.

Very delicious Sunday roast. We ordered both special roast dishes, including lamb shoulder, turkey, pork lion and sirloin beef. You would not be let down by any of them. Definitely return back!

Had no idea what to expect. Located right in the heart of Ely, this hotel was unexpectedly excellent. Room was a good size, tastefully furnished and clean. Sure, some of the fittings were a little worn, but what hotel room doesn't suffer the same fate? No lift here and we were on the second floor, so bear that in mind when booking. Car parking space is limited, though we had no problems for the 3 days we stayed. Dined in the restaurant twice. Service was quick and efficient with the food rated between excellent and good. Staff were all pleasant, helpful and polite and my partner and I would certainly recommend staying here.
