The Anchor Inn at Sutton Gault in East Cambridgeshire

We had a lovely meal. There were 7 of us (one added on, not booked). The owners catered for the extra person without a hitch. All of the food was delicious and cooked to perfection. There were no complaints. Lovely ambience too.

We had a lovely evening at The Anchor Inn last Saturday night, the food was excellent, very tasty and obviously freshly cooked; yes, we had to wait a while for our food, but it was a busy Saturday evening and they also had a large private party in the adjoining room, but it was well worth the wait, and there was complimentary homemade bread with olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip brought to our table whilst we waited. I only moved to Sutton 3 weeks ago hence I don't know the area very well at all, so I relied on facebook to find a place to take my family visitors when they came to stay with me (as I don't have a cooker yet)! They were very impressed with the food and the welcoming relaxed atmosphere, so I just wanted to say huge thanks to all of you at the Anchor Inn. We will be back, hopefully on a dryer evening 😊

Nice latte, the single member of staff I met was friendly and helpful. Out of the way location by the side of the cut, just about enough parking. Only had a coffee so can't comment on the menu. Some outdoor seating but none of it covered and a little exposed to the elements.

Oh dear! What a disappointment.From start the finish the evening was poor.On arrival we were greeted with 'I will be 2 secs' from staff members, 3x over, while paperwork, and chatting took precedence. Not a good start. We asked for drinks when we eventually had someones attention only to be told to read illegible writing, purple chalk on a blackboard really doesn't work, that was balanced on the bar. The staff were nonchalant and clearly weren't interested in making customers feel comfortable.The drinks arrived in a fairly timely manner, but the entire bottle of tonic had been pre-poured into the ordered gin, not the way things should be done as people enjoy their G&T's differently.We then had to ask someone to take our food order as no-one seemed to be looking after our table.We ordered tempura prawns with an avocado salsa, the batter was thick and heavy, tempura should be as light as a feather, and the salsa had way too much garlic making it taste bitter. For mains 2 of us ordered steak, one medium well done which was cooked very poorly, it was blue in the centre. The peppercorn sauce was completely inedible. It was so disgusting and harshly peppered it felt as if the chef was poking fun at the diners. The third member of the party ordered risotto, this was stodgy and greasy. It had way too much cheese so the flavours of pea and asparagus were completely overpowered. The chef clearly hadn't bothered to taste anything before it came out to us.After this we couldn't bear to order dessert and throw good money after bad.The only reason that I am giving one star is that the ingredients were of good quality, the meat particularly looked superb. The chef clearly doesn't know how to handle such quality raw materials, perhaps MacDonalds would be better suited to the skills they possess.We did complain, this was acted upon, and some recompense was made. While this was appreciated it in no way saved the evening.I have eaten here in the past and it was truly a wonderful experience, but given the poor service, and poor, inedible food, we will not be returning. Its such a shame that customers. ambience, drinks, and food were treated with such little care and respect.

Delightful country inn in rural Cambridgeshire. The 4 rooms vary from small en-suite to a marvellous 3 room suite. But it is the food that makes this place different from any other pub we've stayed in, it is simply marvellous. I recommend you check their website and pay them a visit, you'll not regret it.

Only went in for a drink but was made to feel very welcome. Beautiful old country Inn , loved it and would like to go back and sample the menu sometime as it looked delicious. It was warm, comfortable and the staff were very friendly. The wine list looked extensive and interesting.

We had a beautiful meal here last night. The service was excellent even though they were very busy. As for the food, we'll that was above and beyond what I've had there before & it was excellent before. First time having sea bass and I will have it again.Beautiful place in a stunning setting

Stayed overnight as a B&B, room lovely but shower didn't drain properly so leaked down into dinning room! Beautiful isolated location, breakfast great. Gifted night away, I would have expected it to be perfect for the money paid, lack of attention to detail. Real ale perfect.

An absolutely outstanding meal and truly top notch service! I cannot praise the staff highly enough - when I reserved the table, I notified them that a diner had an allergy to vegetable oil, and they not only had full knowledge of exactly what oils they used for what, but they'd prepared potatoes to be roasted in an alternative oil! Couldn't ask for better! The staff were attentive and polite, and so friendly! The food was absolutely gorgeous (stunning roast dinners... including some phenomenal Yorkshire puddings and the crunchiest crackling ever!) Highly recommend a visit... and definitely the sticky toffee pudding! Thank you so much to all the staff for a wonderful afternoon!

Stunning views especially during the winter months. For such a out of the way place the food was fantastic with a good selection of drinks. Very good value for money and very friendly staff who are only too happy to help.The only complaint one could possibly make is the parking and even then it is not too bad at all.Book in advance to avoid disappointment and you will be in for a fantastic time.
