Lovely pub and nicely situated close to the river, lots of historical interest in the area, good beer served and very welcoming. Staff were nice, great atmosphere.

Nice pub / hotel. One overnight stay here, room was pleasant and nice bathroom. Down side was a bright street light outside the bedroom window.

·

Nice pub, decent menu and beer options. Friendly staff too. Good location between the riverside and market square.

First time at the Royal Standard, but won't be the last. Food is incredible and all the staff were lovely. Had the roast dinner, it was cooked perfectly, dessert was great too.

We enjoyed our weekend at The Royal Standard. Food was really good, service excellent. Soundproofing between floors really good. Could hear noise on the street due to single glazed windows but this quietened down after pubs closed so not really an issue.Bed super comfy. Room not bad at all for the price. I would go again and would recommend.Jill & Brian

Perfect! Stopped over as we were visiting family and venturing into London for a day. The food, staff, and accommodation was second to none. We were booked in for food elsewhere, but once I saw the food leaving the kitchen, it was a no-brainer, cancelled, and booked a table, everything was cooked perfectly. There is a great selection on the drinks menu and all the staff were friendly, polite and great at their jobs. Thank you for such a pleasant stay.

Had a nice meal with my family. The kids meals were very nice- not the usual deep fried fare. The roast looked good which my wife had. Nice atmosphere and our waiter was lovely. The problem I had is with the main courses. I wanted the fish but it only came with a salad garnish? If I wanted potatoes and veg it was an extra £10!!! I’ve never seen this practice before and don’t understand it. The price charged for the main itself seemed adequate then to charge so much for spuds and veg is a rip-off.Ended up with a sandwich and paid an extra £1.50 for a tiny portion of fries. These added costs really annoy customers. I hope the restaurant manager reads this and sorts it out.

Lovely traditional pub with lots of secret alcoves to enjoy a quiet drink. We stopped for a drink and sandwiches, which were very generous in portion size and tasty. Everything was homemade and the staff were very pleasant and efficient. Although we have only been here once, it’s very clear to see how popular this place is. There were two separate birthday parties enjoying the venue and looked like they were having a lovey time. We will definitely be back as the cocktails looked good!

Nicely modernised pub/restaurant. Staff were friendly and attentive. I did notice water glasses on the table but I think you are expected to buy bottled water as non was offered to us. The food was very tasty but the bowls are not necessary If the mash was not drowned in gravy with the sausages. I think a jug of gravy would have been better and given customers a choice. Good value.
