The Gables @ Newgate Street Village; fantastic food, decent prices for the quality, the staff are super friendly. Our favourite restaurant in Hertfordshire bar none

Our first time at The Gables for a Birthday lunch and it was perfect. The food was superb; each one of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The service was excellent; both professional and very welcoming. So nice to eat good food in an elegant restaurant with great service. We will definitely be visiting more often.

I want to thank Theo and his team for making my wedding breakfast a memorable event despite booking it last minute. From the front staff to the serving of food all the staff were very welcoming. The delicious meals were served in large portions with beautiful presentations. Theo accommodated the changes that I made and even allowed my husband and I to have our first dance, including the cutting of our wedding cake.I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Had a lovely meal at The Gables.I went with my husband and friends. The food was good. Unfortunately the thing that spoiled the evening was the entertainment. Most of the time was spent shouting over the singing because we couldn't hear each other!Would return but on an evening when there's no music.

5/5, Exceptional food, amazing service, big portions with quality as the centre focus, rare to get both, best restaurant in Hertfordshire. For starters I had the Calamari which that alone would make me come back, best Calamari I’ve ever had.For my main meal I had the Rib-Eye Steak which was cooked perfectly, which I had with Zucchini and red whine jus sauce. The meat was one of the best cuts I’ve ever had and upon talking with the owner Theo, he was very passionate in saying that they go out of their way to get Donald Russel cuts, was amazing, compliments to the chef.Followed by the Banoffee Pie which was the perfect ratio of biscuit to cream, which is rare and the toffee in the middle to separate it, great way to end the evening if you have a sweet tooth.I had a few cocktails, which was unbelievable value for money and unlike when travelling to London, at the Gables you definitely didn’t have that London Drink prices, brilliant prices for 2; highly recommend.Definitely the best restaurant to go to in Hertfordshire and is my go to for sure, top recommendation, the staff are very friendly and accommodating, drinks were very good for pricing and the food was exceptional.5/5.

Had the opportunity to eat at The Gables today and introduce a good friend to this restaurant, we had a wonderful meal. Fish at this restaurant is very good, as is the rest of the menu. It's been a few years since I last visited having moved away from the area, but was not disappointed with the food and ambience. Its not the cheapest restaurant, but you get what you pay for these days and I think it's well worth the journey to eat good food. Thanks Guys

Lovely restaurant with extremely welcoming front of house and staff, the service was great all night and all extras were offered. The cocktails were great albeit a little expensive. The food quality was the real highlight though, exceptional quality and taste, would highly recommend. We all had the duck as a main and none of us were disappointed! They also had a singer on for the night, it was a little loud and obnoxious (think karaoke), nonetheless some people seemed to enjoy it.Would definitely recommend to others and will be coming back for another meal soon!

Delightful covered and heated outdoor space. Impeccable service with an enticing menu. Free parking opposite at the cricket club, but this may not be available if matches are on.We had the Sunday roast which was delightful, crispy crunchy crackling with delicious gravy, parsnips a particular highlight. We will be back for the rest of the menu!

I don’t often do 5 stars but I believe this restaurant deserves all five. Right down from the welcome, the ambiance, the attentive service, through to the menu and the food, it’s all of such a high standard. And we found the prices more than reasonable. We see a pride in the dishes they serve and a hospitality that made our evening very special.
