"As the proprietor of the Axe & Compasses & have been working in the catering industry for many years. I have introduced my great passion for fresh local foods into my restaurant & catering business & I am gratified by recent trends back to the basics of freshly prepared, balanced & wholesome, healthy meals.I have implanted my philosophy of purchasing ingredients from local producers & preparing meals & menus which take the customers dietary needs into account.Each day I secure fresh fish, meat, bread, dairy products & produce.I bake fresh bread daily; make our very own tar tar & horseradish sauce & ice cream. Our chips are hand cut & served with the skin. I am committed to constant improvement & persistently seek to find local suppliers."

We had a fantastic experience last night booked a table for 4 the landlord was so friendly couldn’t do enough for us , the meals were homemade and delicious and a good price highly recommend . We had a big round table by the log burner so cosy.

At last we have found a pub which serves a good range of vegan mains and deserts. The cheesecake was delicious. Will definitely be returning to sample the rest of the vegan options .

Visited on a Sunday had a lovely roast plus other things from the menu all really nice and the staff were friendly and helpful too. A really nice place for a drink and food.

Nice local pub in a quiet spot, with outdoor seating at the rear of the property.Menu / food was good and served to a high finish. Marked 4/5 stars as we went midweek (only 4-5 tables were occupied) but got the impression they were short staffed / stressed by the volume.

Lovely location in a village.food excellent .service pleasent.plenty of parking .toilets clean.we had prawns in garlicand chili with fresh bread.deep fried brie not greasy .sasauge 2 fried eggs .chips.Sausage salad poach eggs.fodant choc with ice cream.and it oozed with choc sauce.we will be back.
