"Welcome to the Goat – a beautiful and historic British pub on the village green at Hertford Heath. If you are looking for a British pub with all the trimmings you have come to the right place. Set in the heart of rural Hertfordshire, we pride ourselves in offering everything a great British pub should; a warm welcome, delicious food, real ales, a beer garden or an open fire (depending on the good old British weather), a classy wine selection and some great gins!"

We visited as a party of 15 to celebrate a couple of family birthdays. Having pre-booked our choice of food the service, quality of food and overall cost for the evening did not disappoint. We also loved the way the tables were set out in a square so it meant we could all engage in the fun. Everyone was really impressed and we will certainly return.

Great food at a reasonable price.Loved the Halloumi chips, Goats Cheese Terrine with roast vegetables and the Filo parcel of cream cheese and hand cut chips with skins on .Also enjoyed the Lemon cheese cake presented as in a Michelin star restaurant. The individual Apple pie with sultanas and custard was large and tasty.Recommend the Guest Ale. Partner had a Wine Spritzer. Total. Bill £40 was good value.15 February 2022Visited again. This was a small plate - this is more than enough for a full meal at just £6.95 and absolutely delicious.29th MarchBack for a light meal. Great food and friendly service. Husband claimed the venison pie was the best pie he's ever eaten (and he's had a lot).

Love the pub, a real community hub. Would visit more often if they offered some main courses as small plates. Please also put fish cakes back on the menu.

We were so looking forward to lunch at The Goat because the reviews seemed so positive. Unfortunately we were thoroughly disappointed. The service was passable (it is a pub after all, not a restaurant), but the food was awful - especially at those prices! My garlic mushrooms were bland and I could not even taste the garlic...it was also way too large a portion. The main, I chose the lamb burger, was simply inedible. It was swimming in fat, had no flavour and served with a small pot of soggy chips. The white wine was the only acceptable element. My partner was equally dissatisfied with her poorly seasoned ham hock and bland half chicken...Oh dear!

Tucked away off the beaten track, is this wonderful very old pub. Plenty of parking, when you enter the building, it's like going back in time. Some of the beams are only about 5 feet off the ground, there is a lovely warm atmosphere inside, and it's very warm and cosy.Meals served, good choice of beers, superb bar staff, a great visit.
