Really disappointed with this place, heard great things and food looks nice on social media but our family experience was poor. Sat outside the tables were old and broken, there was glasses everywhere and old food packets that hadn’t been cleared away. Had to go in to order and pay. Food was really cold and like it had been sitting under a hot plate for ages as it was dry by the time it got to us. Cream on the desert was off so we didn’t eat this. In the end we just left .

After a period of striking the Axe off our visit list, we returned after trying a new place that didn’t do hot lunch meals during the week! It’s now back on our avoid list. Starter was OK, but we were expecting to be able to share the “large” falafels - all 4 tiny balls of falafel. The chicken supreme was dry, the mash was dry and when more sauce was requested, the pommodoro was weird and left a strange after taste. The sea bass fillet was half a sea bass fillet (who had the rest of my fish?) and was drenched in leaves - oh and a smidgen of chorizo. £16.00 for half a meal was definitely poor value for money. Not nice.

A last minute visit on Saturday lunchtime with friends. We had our dog with us. She was made very welcome and can certainly recommend the sausages that were served to her. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. The food was first class. Look forward to visiting friends again for a return visit

Smiling at all the reviews from fussy people! 'let me taste my food before asking if I like it' Some people really are special. The food was nice and menu creative. Service was nice too and the pub beautifully decorated. These guys work REALLY hard to make this a success and I think they are a top choice for food and drinks for me.Feedback : burger too dry, chips too dry, rump steak raw in the middle, onion rings too oily.

Went here on a Friday night and it was very busy, both bar and restaurant.Quite a friendly atmosphere.Good variety of beers and wines and spirits like you'd expect.Very wide age range of customers from little kids with their mums and dads up to granny and grandad.Menu not massive but that's a good thing in my opinion. Something on it for everyone I'd say.I had chicken supreme wrapped in Parma ham with seasonal veg and crushed new potatoes, though I asked to swap my crushed spuds for chips and this was not a problem. My food was absolutely delicious and it was lovely and hot. I would also bet it was cooked fresh too. The wait for food was a bit long but pub was busy and it was Friday. Grub definitely worth the wait. The waiting staff were excellent, really friendly and actually seemed to enjoy their work. Knew the menu and pointed out the specials. Smiley, happy staff contribute to customers enjoyment I think so well done our two wait staff! There were 3 of us and we had a couple of drinks each, two courses ( main and dessert) and the bill was still in double figures.Axe and Compass we will be back!Thank you.

I've got to admit we are a fussy family! It was Tuesday Evening, loads of walk ins, great atmosphere and a waiter who single handedly made our visit one to remember! The chef produced lovely food and our drinks were always full! I am looking forward to coming back.Thank-you!

Food was great. But have to put a review on as 1 man managed a very busy restaurant and bar on his own. He was polite, friendly and bloody efficient. Well done & Thank you.

We had a lovely meal here Friday evening. Pork belly was delicious, and the burgers were “amazing and the best they’d ever tasted” according to my teenagers!. All of the Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Great service , lovely cosy pub, will be back soon!!

My wife and stepson and I were the first to try the new afternoon tea and it was out of this world. The cakes were moist and delicious and the sandwiches were full and tasty. But it was the unique crispy flakey cronuts that replaced the scones that really excelled this experience. Really Really lovely
