The Crown in Epping Forest

Came here for my Birthday and I was so disappointed, lovely waitress and the lovely views but it's a no from me. All of our food came out cold (we wasn't the only ones as I heard others complaining) everything was bland and just point blank not nice my hollandaisesauce didnt taste of anything, the pizzas are literally just tomato puree and cheese. I paid for our food through the app and was later told they had run out of pizza bases (stupid of me to think they made them fresh) so my partner ordered something else instead which was 5 pound cheaper than the pizza I paid for but we got offered complimentary £1.50 chips! I felt robbed Our plates didn't get taken away for atleast 2 hours I actually had to move all of out plates after an hour to another table and they still didn't get taken away. I had a very unpleasant time and I'm annoyed I gave them a second chance because I visited this place several years ago and it was shambles then but thought after many years it would of improved.

Nice pub inside & out. I gave 4 stars because it was a little pricey I thought for drinks but it was handy to stop off for a drink after a walk along the canal

A nice setting by the river, however the service level needs an improvement. After being seated, it was nearly 45 minutes before our food arrived. It was not busy, but lack of staff was noticeable. Won't stop me visiting again, but I will be choosing a quieter time when I know service will be better.

Leisurely enjoyable Sunday lunch with family in lovely surroundings made extra nice thanks to the friendly, helpful, efficient service from Cody. Took my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter for lunch recently to the pub, which we have been to several times in the past but not for a few years as we had found that the food and service had deteriorated the last few occasions. However, it was lovely to see such a change! The pub was almost full, food delicious and service from all the staff was warm and welcoming, especially Cody. Keep up the good work everyone and we look forward to returning soon.

Wonderful staff, fairly priced tasty food and lovely location.This was the first place I took my two young children to eat out on my own and I will definitely be returning. We were first to arrive and had the place to ourselves, which was just as well as my two year old tore around exploring at top speed. The staff were polite and helpful, even locating my errant toddler as she rocketed off into the distance. The kids menu was a good balance of what they want v what they need, and provided good sized portions. I enjoyed my lamb kofta and my little ones only asked for my lunch once 😂, and they seemed satisfied with their own options. The crayons and high chairs went down well too.I didn't use the app in the end but will do next time so I don't have to take the kiddies all the way in to the till and back again. When ordering take away to go home with, I noticed I was able to order an option that was "out of stock" on the app.I love the location. A nice walk from my house in Wormley, a canal nearby, plenty of sun and shade in the garden, including a nice sized tree to chase children around. No playground but not needed when quiet.Thanks very much for easing me in gently to eating out alone with my two toddlers!

Whilst staff seemed nice they were also unaware of what drinks they actually stocked.They were kind enough to give us a table despite not booking in advanced but the food really was poor quality. The vegan wellington was about as dry as eating a boot left in the sun and it was surrounded by dry vegetables. The flavour was decent but how hard is it to realise that patty without sauce will be dry? Give me a gravy? And the vegan lasagne would barely fill a child, how can it possibly be a main?Extremely basic choice of what’s on tap and will only appeal to alcoholics rather than those who enjoy flavour and aroma.Beautiful surroundings and cosy environment but a lot of room for improvement.

A traditional pub. Off the beaten track. We walked the river to find the Crown after being recommended by friends - as we have a dog.I’m so very glad that we did. Loved the fires and the staff. The Barmaid was friendly and the manager (tall man with beard) even brought our dog a bowl of water without asking. It’s the little touches that make the difference.We ordered a few bits for lunch and the menu is impressive. They also have a festive menu!! And crackers lol. Our lunch arrived quick and hot (especially as it’s really cold outside).We can’t praise this place enough. Well recommend to anyone.

I love this canal-side pub. The atmosphere is friendly, and the food is good. I’ve been several times with my dog and have sat inside, and outside. The Sunday roast is lovely. Once, I had cause to make a very tiny complaint about a meal, and without even asking, the Manager refunded me the entire cost of the meal. I was stunned! Such wonderful Customer Service and it makes all the difference between, ‘never returning’ and making a regular return. I often eat there now. This pub understands the true meaning of ‘customer satisfaction’.

Location: really good after a boat trip on the opposite side of the channel, or a long walk from Cheshunt to Broxbourne.Venue: huge garden next to quiet canal and forest; with lots of tables, ours was #91 right next to the forest. Inside a really nice decorated pub/restaurant with lots of space.Ordering: tad confusing and manual. When you enter at front door, grab a menu from the left of the bar, find a table in garden or inside, figure out what you want, back to bar to order and pay, take drinks with you, take some cutleries yourself, they'll bring the food your ordered to you. I guess this is "normal" in a pub, but still strange consider the establishment looks like a really nice restaurant.Food: pretty good. We both got "Beef bourguignon" (very similar to Greek Stifado, or Hungary beef stew). This was tasty, but the meat portion was huge. Would been great if it was: smaller pieces of meat with more dripping that soaks it, and maybe a bit less of meat. We also got a side of "baby potatoes", but they were giant pieces of potatoes, the normal size, not even cut up to smaller pieces. Very tasty though with spices and butter.Verdict: good experience, will be back to try the burgers, we saw them after we ordered.

Lovely pub setting, staff seem fed up couldn't lift their head from the ipad.Ordered a "meat feast" pizza and a meat pie, pie was all pastry (nicely done) but not much inside.Pizza was really poor, doughy, sod all chicken on 1 half and 3 blobs of caramelised onions.
