Lovely room although 3 flights of stairs up no lift. Breakfast nice however serving staff greeting guests with 'hi guys' doesn't quite fit in with the historic nature of the hotel. Felt like we were in a cheap pub. Otherwise service was good.

Bathroom was dirty. Toilet seat lid had chips and cracks on the surface. No walk in shower, the shower was inside of a bath tub. The handle in the bathtub has what appears to be black mold or some type of grime. The sink also has chips and cracks on the surface. You also have to carry your luggage up multiple stairs because there is no elevator. It is one of the worst hotels that I have ever stayed at in terms of room conditions. Will not come back. The wifi speeds are great though!

The last evening for the 'old' Rutland, before its £8 million refit. The staff looked after us superbly, and the food was excellent. Hope the resident 'presences' won't mind all the alterations

Love the bar area with its comfy seating and cosy fire. Staff always friendly and coffee good. The brownies that come with it are amazing

Historical hotel, great customer service and central location in Newmarket. Well worth the stay. Evening meal we had was superb.

Just home from a weekend in Newmarket staying at this beautiful hotel. We arrived before 12 and were hoping to leave our bags a reception but were greeted with 2 lovely helpful receptionists who informed us that both our rooms were ready. We were offered a free upgrade with rooms together which we accepted happily. The rooms were stunning , oak beams plenty of space and a sofa in our room. We were very impressed. This morning we had a fabulous breakfast with helpful , lovely staff attending to all our needs!!Just fabulous would love to stay again.

This is a hotel with a lot of character, all rooms on upper floor and no lift, so two flights of stairs is the negative bit. Otherwise free secure parking right next to hotel which is in center of the town. Good little bar with very friendly staff, I think it has just been taken over by another company so might be due a facelift. My room 153 was very large and bright and airy. Shower was great in a tiny bath. Breakfast was very good as well.

Quirky charming hotel.Stayed for 2day break, loved every minute.Upgraded to 'character room' on last night, this was a lovely suite.Nice food in restaurant.Staff are very friendly and helpful.Definitely going back later this year for another stay.Short drive to Cambridge, which was main reason for staying here.Highly recommended.

I stayed at the Rutland Arms in 1991 on official US Govt business. The owner and I explored the countryside during the day, when I wasn't working, and explored his well-stocked bar at night. I met the Queen Mother's jockey a Mr Kelly there along with several of the village notables. All in all, a wonderful time; I hope the years have been good to the hotel and staff. A wonderful place.
