The Moorhen in Harlow

Nice pub ..Nice set up ...staff were friendly and helpful ..but the food 😩 I had ribs and steak and asked for medium ...came out rare .Also steak was very tough .Ribs were nice ..chips were OK...would prob resist to sit by river with a drink but wouldn't eat there again

Very friendly, lovely staff and good food. I had the lunch option. Salmon, boiled new potatoes with side salad, really good value at under 7 pounds.

Had a really tasty steak and ribs, presented nicely, with some baby tomatoes and watercress salad, the rump was beautiful, nice size piece, cooked as requested medium well, chunky and full of flavour. The ribs and chips were good too, with a glass of Shiraz to accompany it, a really good value meal. The staff were friendly, the pub itself had a nice atmosphere, was well decorated and clean, we'll definitely be looking forward to our next visit.

Moorhen public is good. Servers are pleasant and attentive. Even on the Saturday evening we went. The meal is decent portion sizes are okay with the exception of the desserts. The desserts are small but the price of them is not. This needs addressing as it lets the experience down. I mean £6 for a small ice cream based dessert is strong.

Great place, friendly staff and fresh hot food. We find there is something for all of us here. I like the create your own children's menu. Charlotte was very attentive and helpful making sure our order was correct and the steak cooked how we liked.

Food and environment excellent. Very good service and everything well kept. Winter evening so don't know about the outdoor area but cos see close to the river without obtrusive damp etc.

Our extended family had Christmas Dinner at The Moorhen Christmas afternoon. The food was lovely, hot, large portions and served quickly. Our waitress (Sue A) was friendly and helpful throughout. Thankful for their help on Christmas day!! The restaurant was beautifully decorated and we had a private room upstairs. Would recommend. Thanks all

What a fantastic pub this is now. I used to come here when it was the Hungry Horse which was large portions and cheap prices and although the portion sizes are not quite the same now, the quality is far superior and the decor inside is that of an upmarket restaurant. The setting is lovely and and the staff are very friendly. I had the dipping steak which I have to say on this occasion was equally as good as Miller and Carter. The choice of steak is superb and I will definitely be back to try another.

Came for dinner tonight with friends and it was incredibly busy - we were sat on the bar side which is absolutely fine and we were expecting a wait for the food.When the food arrived, the waiter attempted to remove a hair from my plate before putting it down but was unsuccessful. I pulled in the hair myself and it was fully embedded in the food.I sent the food back and was told I’d receive a replacement.About 5 minutes later I received a plate of food, which was incredibly quick considering the previous longer wait.I’d taken a photo of the plate before I’d sent it back, and checked it against my ‘new’ plate of food. The chips had moved and hunters chicken pot had been turned around, but you can’t change the shape of the chicken and there was no denying it was the same plate.A manager refunded for my meal which I of course didn’t eat, so it was rectified at the time, but it wasn’t a pleasant visit so thought I’d share my review.
