Gatehouse Restaurant in Ipswich

Great welcome, Nice Large Clean room. Arrived late but still had time to have a couple of drinks at the quaint bar before going into the dining room for a wonderful meal. All the staff were fantastic but one in particular made our stay superb. A very big thank you to Marina who was so lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, Marina deserves a pay rise.... We will try to come and stay again when we get the opportunity. Do not be put off by the out of town location..... its only a five minute taxi ride to the centre of Ipswich.....

This hotel is an undiscovered gem! Staff (mainly 1 lovely lady, Marrissa??) are fantastic! Food is gorgeous. We had dinner, how they managed to get each main and dessert for 4 of us sooo perfect, I will never know!! Breakfast was pretty perfect too!Rooms could do with an update, but very clean and caringly looked after by the staff. I would so stay here again! Even would go just for dinner as it is absolutely gorgeous food!!Very well done to the staff who obviously raise this hotel up to a very pleasant experience for the guest.

Decent location, with no traffic noise and decent access to public transport into the town centre, or half an hour's walk at a steady pace.However, although our room had been upgraded, the bed was rather uncomfortable and the mattress was apparently old and worn in, with a deep "trench" on either side, which gave me and my girlfriend stuff backs in the morning. The bed frame itself was solid wood, and although it looked very nice, was prone to horrendously loud creaking at the slightest movement.Didn't eat there as had tables booked in restaurants both nights we stayed, but the prices looked quite reasonable

Apart from the bed that creaked like you wouldn't believe it was a wonderful experience. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced. The best part was the service. The same woman checked us in (past midnight without complaint), cleaned the rooms, later served us at the bar, waitressed for dinner and was still smiling when she served breakfast and checked us out. The whole wonderful experience was made perfect by her.

The hotel is quaint and old fashioned, which is exactly what we were looking for. The staff was exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and clean. We had no complaints during the five days we stayed here. Oh, and be sure to have their Continental Breakfast. It is superb.

This is a very basic hotel in a quiet, convenient setting. I booked and paid for a double bed but been given a box room with a single bed. The staff was apologetic and I was able to switch rooms instantly. The rooms are dated and appear dirty. This doesn’t only apply to places indirectly visible, but the only bin in my room was in the bath room and it was full on my arrival with used female sanitary wipes. The breakfast is good and you are able to order items by each as opposed to a full ready breakfast. The service is friendly. Having said that, I would not stay here again.

In May our group of 29 had a terrific few days at the hotel. The rooms were varied of course, but no complaints. The food was absolutely superb, and the staff could not be more friendly and helpful. Strongly recommended.

I would like to share my appreciation on the service that Receptionist Marianna provided during my short stay. She was very friendly with her warm hearted approach when I asked her if it is possible to order something out of the restaurant working hours without hesitation she offered me a delicious mini-meal. As I told her I felt like my mom is around. 😊Overall it is a small, historic hotel with a character and very friendly staff.Thanks,Burcu Gün

My Manager booked this hotel with a few hours notice of my arrival. I am working nights so arrive back in the morning ready for breakfast and bed. The staff have made me very welcome and take into consideration my odd hours. The breakfast is basic and is cooked with care and attention to detail or there is a continental choice.The decoration in the bedroom and dining room is functional and everything is clean.I would have like to try the bar and walk in the grounds, maybe another time.

I stayed in this hotel for one night, whilst exploring part of Suffolk. The hotel is very attractive, the staff friendly and efficient, and my room had character without being overdone. It's worth noting that the rooms (or at least mine) haven't been fitted with air conditioning, and the water pressure to the shower is weak, but these are minor issues -- I'd stay here again without hesitation. Oh, and the breakfast -- freshly cooked to order -- was fantastic: one of the best cooked breakfasts I've had!
