Where is Mandarin?

🏠 623 Foxhall Rd, Ipswich IP3 8ND

"Fresh food, fast – that’s our motto here at Mandarin. After whipping (and frying, and roasting) up a storm for some of the most renowned Chinese kitchens locally, we finally decided to open our own in 2005, on this little corner of Foxhall Road. Since that opening day of August 8th — the number 8 is considered lucky because it sounds like the Chinese word for “fortune” — to today, we’ve only ever had one wish: to cook you the tastiest dishes using the freshest ingredients. From classics like crispy aromatic duck and sweet and sour pork, to littler-known delicacies like Mongolian lamb and crispy fried noodles, our diverse menu draws on the best of Cantonese cuisine. We hope you love it much as we do."

We are new to the area and ordered food. The first time food was tasty so ordered the same order again...or so we thought! Husband bit into a "prawn ball" and realised it was actually meat. We are vegetarians. He called the shop who then told us it was pork. We have never had pork before. Obviously very unhappy. They didn't seem apologetic. And even suggested my husband to collect the correct order. Any way this wasnt going to happen. Although they are at the end of our road ot took 45minutes for them to be delivered to our door. Needless to say we will never be ordering again.

Second time ordering from this "Chinese restaurant " due to being new in the area, Second bad experience if im honest! Food was bland, chips dry, curry sauce like water, and the house special chow mein should be re-named vegetable chow mein with meat elements. The meat in the chow mein was fatty and on the verge of rare!! As for the meal itself it was completely tasteless with the chow mein full of a not particularly nice tasting liquid!! Will travel further and spend more money to gain a more authentic experience elsewhere.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE! I wish there was a way to rate a place 0 out of 5! I've ordered 3 times from this Chinese and every single time I've had extreme toilet incidents immediately after! Go to happy house on Lindbergh Road instead!!

First meal from here today, wasn't impressed rice was quite hard, chow mein didn't have much flavour and one of the pork balls was literally fat coated in batter. Wouldn't go again, will pay the extra delivery fee and go somewhere else. Disappointed.

What I like about it is that the food quality is decent and consistent unlike many others with better reputations that I have tried in the area. I like that the food comes in foil trays and not those sweaty plastic tubs. You can order via Just Eat, which is convenient. I've read bad reviews about service, but I've only ever had an efficient 'direct' service - there's hardly any hanging around as it's usually ready on time (in this instance I'd rather have quick than a smily wait). I'm now a regular and, rather than settle for local mediocrity, I'd prefer driving 20 mins for the decent Mandarin.

If I could leave a zero star review I would! We only ordered from here as four seasons wasn't taking orders. An hour and a half wait, food was cold, food was Discusting ,wrong order delivered and when we call up poor customer service.2x chicken curries turned up as prawn curries to which i am allergic . Chicken in satay sauce looked like puke. After spending £50 on this meal im very disappointed. Will be avoiding in future!!

Not our usual Chinese - thought I'd give them a try as I had their menu through our door. We deffo will be back! Food was lovely and full of flavour and everything was fresh and plenty to go around. Was able to pay by card at door, which was a bonus!

We ordered our takeaway and were given a collection time of 30 to 45 minutes. Arrived I was met with a smiling face and our order was ready. When we got home everything we ordered was there plus some free prawn crackers. The meal was excellent as on previous occasions. The fried crispy beef was to die for as were the Singapore noodles. Will make this our favourite Chinese takeaway.

I have used these a few times now, and given that I am not particularly a Chinese Takeaway fan, however, Mandarin delivers. Really enjoy their chow mein, and garlic chicken. The chicken balls have a good ratio of chicken to batter, but we have found their rice dry on occasion. Recently delivery is a bit slower than previously, but i think this because of the roadworks on the roundabout they are situated.

Our go-to Chinese takeaway in Ipswich. We've tried others but Mandarin is consistently great. They're pretty busy on weekends so I always ask if it's quicker to pop by and collect it. Considering the competition in the area I doubt there's a good alternative... I love their duck and beef dishes, and my wife says the Chow Mein dishes are among the best she's ever had.
