Dabbling Duck in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

I was very excited about coming to the Dabbling Duck, as I had been years ago and thought it was good. This was our first family meal out since before covid kicked off.Unfortunately, we all felt that our meals were poor quality. I had the burger, which was tasteless and had a tiny limp leaf of lettuce in it, with no other salad whatsoever. The chips on the side were overcooked and again, tasteless. My family had some hand cut chips which they felt were not fresh and had been sitting around for a while. None of us finished the chips. The scampi was better than you can get at many pubs and the fish (from the fish and chips), whilst it looked lovely and had crispy batter, wasn't the freshest. Not enough greenery with the meals. My coke was room temperature and not fizzy. Very disappointing.On the upside, the public conveniences were very clean and the dining areas themselves clean as well, and well ventilated. The staff were lovely too, hence bringing the rating up to two stars.I'm puzzled as to why the Dabbling Duck has such a high rating - perhaps people have low expectations/standards, not sure. Unfortunately the experience was let down only by the poor quality food. £70 lighter for four people, now back to home cooked meals!

Lovely pub to visit and the food was excellent -it surprised us! Every dish was great. We had mushroom soup (amazing flavour), sea bream, prawns and steak. All were excellent. And it's dog friendly!

Stopped off for a beer. Clearly very much an events based pub. No free space in the bar to sit and other rooms/bars closed due to private function. Directed to the barn bar at the back. Sadly the upholstered furniture was less than inviting with stained unclean looking seats. The stuffed squirrel was rather distasteful and the moose head on the wall was not really representative of Norfolk life, having been extinct on this area for over 8,000 years. Overall impression? I won't be rushing back any time soon.

Nice interior and good service. Very mixed experience with the food. Maybe the chef's day off?Starter of duck pate was bland and unseasoned, served with a fairly dry brioche.Starter of prawns with prawn toast was delicious.Main of dressed crab was poor. Small crab with dry potato salad and yesterday's bread.Sent this back and ordered the prawn curry instead. Very bland sauce, more like a soup, with very ordinary rice and a thick undercooked chapati.My wife had the lamb, which was really delicious, although the potatoes it came with were dry and over seasoned.The staff were really good about it all though. Would have been less than 3 starts without their service.

Very nice lunch at The Dabbling Duck. Lovely ambience, friendly staff and encouraging to see somewhere busy! Delicious lunch, Roast Pork for my Husband and Burger for myself. Both had Sticky Toffee pudding for dessert with clotted cream ice cream. My Husband's also came with a Banoffee sauce but had mine without! Dog friendly for well behaved dogs on leads.

Oh, yes………….My wife & I visited The Dabbling Duck Pub, Great Massingham, Norfolk, on Thursday the 21st of April (2022). The food was amazing as was the service. Our waitress, Sara, was superb, very attentive, friendly and polite and she never stopped working the whole time that we were there. She waited tables, thoroughly cleaned and sanitised the tables when guests left and fetched and carried the whole time, a proper waitress. I noticed, when reading the many reviews that a number of people were very annoyed and put off with the fact that dogs are allowed in the bar/ restaurant area and the bedrooms when guests stay. Now I have to admit that I hate it when dogs are allowed into pubs, restaurants, cafes , hotels etc, it’s a pet hate of mine ( pardon the pun) but The Dabbling Duck Pub has 2 rooms that don’t allow dogs ( room 1 & 6) I believe. But, anyway, I am giving 5 stars based on the food and the service. Oh, yes The Dabbling Duck Pub is amazing, well done to all.

Definitely top 10.Luxuriously rich Sunday roast beef (Which is a clear marque of any pub kitchen); astonishingly good burger (2nd measure of quality pub kitchen). Quality desserts.Staff with a friendly smile and helpful service. Great beer and wine selection to suit most tastes.Facilities for every occasion - great garden; dog refreshments; outdoorish barn/saloon area equipped with pizza ovens and smokers; climbing frame; rooms and close by cottages to rent; sunset bandstand area.If you're in the area, go, do not hesitate. It might even be worth a dedicated trip if you're not...

Not a good welcome. Stood ages at bar/reception to be greeted. Approached by Amy ( heard her being called by this name ) told her we had a table booked, she asked what name but could not find it and suggested another name, when I repeated the name , bluntly she said “ yes, you have told me that twice “. She then said but you are not booked in until 8 pm, it was 7.49pm , did not know we could not come slightly earlier to have a drink. Luckily our table was free. If it had not been for a friend’s retirement meal we would have walked out and not spent £171.00. Advice, please find someone with a smile and better attitude to meet and greet

Absolutely lovely! Everything about this place is great, staff in particular were so friendly and welcoming. Food was fabulous as was the wine and cocktails! Very comfortable room, with a lovely touch of vodka to try. Very nice to have cafeteria in the room too. I'd love to go back in warmer months and try out the barn!

Very mixed. The menu looks and sounds delicious but the quality of dishes is unpredictable. Also, could do a lot better dessert menu for people with food intolerances. The dodgy menu is amusing and the canines of the party were satisfied at least.Staff were not wearing masks and we all caught covid during the visit.
