Where is Rose & Crown?

🏠 109 High St, Maldon CM9 5ET

"Reopened in 2015, this has been a long-standing fixture on Maldon’s main shopping street. Flanked by several grade II listed properties, the building is said to be ‘early 16th century’, with ‘alterations to its front in the 18th and 19th century’. It is recorded as The Rose and Crown in the list of Maldon inns included in some of the earliest local trade directories, published in the 1780s. At that time, its licensee was Thomas King."

Very happy, took my girls for lunch. They all enjoy the fact we got lovely food, drinks and somewhere warm to eat for under £20.

A reasonable place, generally clean. The food is price appropriate so don't expect high class cuisine. The staff were polite but pretty uninterested in the customers. For example, one of the self serve coffee machines was only dispensing hot milk. When I told a member of staff, he said he knew and the machine was broken. I had to suggest that they put a sign to that effect on the machine as customers were wasting their time using it. So, all in all an OK experience.

Well myself and my partner came here specially to have brunch as weve not eaten all morning and it was around about 12:15 we arrived there, we went to the bar where we ordered 2 all day brunch, a coffee and a glass of wine and told them our table number was 13 , As i was getting the sauces there was no saly but only pepper, where i asked the bar staff but they said they had ran out of salt, i asked them to ask the kitchen if we can get some from there in reply they had ran out to. (SHOCKED) Then i asked for some hot sauce as i was waiting at the till i was told it would cost 70-80p a portion where i asked for 2 portion still standing at the till then after 5 minutes they said they had run out of that to, i asked for some tobasco they even ran out of that.(Shocked)Well as we sat down waiting for our food we was just surprised and as people poured in it was starting to get busy. Our food came out if you want to call it that, both plates the bacon was completely burnt, all you tasted was the burnt taste from the tray it was cooked on. The egg, bake beans and bacon plus the chips was all cold. The only best thing on our plates was the sausage. The chips you got about 12 dry chips which you would call a child's portion. If i had kids i would even think twice of giving then the chips either least alone the breakfast ,We noticed a large container if salt on someones table who had just left, it was a plastic container which appeared to be bought from Tesco, We asked the staff about it and we was told thats the only salt they had which was passed from table to table if anyone wanted some. Also when other people food came out it was completely different to what we hadThe only reason we came to Witherspoon is because of its reputation for its excellent food but this time no. All this sounds sad but its actually true also in the photo you can see the salt container which was the only one in this Witherspoon

Great food and drinks at great value. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean table's and toilets.

·

very reasonably priced food and drinks, only gripe is the food wasn't hot enough for my liking and they also tried to be smart by giving me the wrong dessert instead of just being honest about running out of my first choice and the full breakfast has one mushroom and literally a tea spoon of beans

Love Wetherspoons. The Rose and Crown has recently been redecorated. Very quirky setting.. Always busy. Friendly staff. Fast service. Lovely food. What could be better. Love going here. Very reasonable prices. Well worth a visit.

A wonderful place. Hearty atmosphere, friendly staff, quick service and great food! The place is beautiful and I'm currently very happily sat in a comfortable chair, eating a very cheap but very delicious meal. I love the building and reading facts around the place. I'd love to come here again as soon as possible.

As far as Weatherspoon Pubs go this one always stands out, why, the team work so hard to keep the place clean and tidy, tables always cleared and not sticky !. Service always very quick, whether using the app or via bar. Chef is very good, I say this as food always hot, served well and never had any complaints. Pub itself is in great location (high street) and lovely converted old building with plenty of seating and wheelchair access excellent.

Typical Wetherspoons - good value for money but basic food. Great indoor and outdoor seating area and good friendly service. Love the bottomless tea offer. Toilets clean although as per typical Spoons up a steep flight of stairs

I like this place. It has a real traditional feel to it. Standard Spoons menu and great service. I've used the app on all my visits here so not sure how busy bar gets. Yes the toilets are upstairs. 😁
