The noise from their bar, the walk way/outside area and rented out rooms is so loud that sleeping is but a wish. The rooms are pokey and smelly. The staff are friendly enough tho. But I would not recommend the sun hotel Hitchin.

7 of us came for a family meal for Mother's day on Sunday. Our waitress was called Jo and we literally could not fault our experience. Food was lovely, big portions (we all had the roast dinner) and the pigs in blankets and Yorkshire pudding are HUGE! Anything we required wasn't an issue, extra gravy, extra cheese. Jo was very helpful and we will definitely be returning. Mothers day was thoroughly enjoyed by Myself, my Mum and the rest of the family. Oh and as we were leaving, us mums were given a little box of Lindt chocolates which was a lovely surprise. Thank you again.

While the service of staff was excellent the hotel itself I felt needs a refurb. Stains on the walls and just generally looks a little run down.Music from downstairs being heard clearly in the room until 1am far from ideal.Staff are a credit to the hotel to be fair to them.

Our room was ok, except that we had no hot water. Despite running the hot tap for a while, we conceded to having a cold wash and shower. NOT good. However, the hotel was perfectly placed for our one night stay.

I have never stayed in such a poorly run establishment. The Sun Hotel should not have its doors open to the public until it has addressed getting the basics of hospitality and hotel management right. I had two room moves within 4 hours of arrival, one room didn't have a working TV with cables that posed a fire risk hanging out the back of it, my first room didn't have a shower - just two holes in the wall... I was then advised the room they had put me in which was described as an 'upgrade' ..(questionable label) I would need to vacate on my last night and they weren't sure then where they would put me. I have had approximately 2-3 hours sleep a night - the corridors are noisy with heavy doors constantly slamming. The bedroom directly above me may as well be at the bottom of my bed - I could even hear the occupant using the toilet. The rooms, corridors and hotel looks disheveled and in dire need of housekeeping and some polyfiller and paint. Cobwebs are thicker than tyre rubber, and the hotel looks and feels unclean. More concerningly the hygiene is incredibly poor, the chef that was off sick with 'flu symptoms' came in on the first morning I was in the restaurant having breakfast coughing and sneezing, hugging the housekeeping staff and going in and out the kitchen. In fact you don't even have to work in this hotel to have free range of going in and out the kitchen from what I've observed over breakfast. I could write War and peace on my stay here this week, no electrics in the room on one morning, being verbally attacked by a drunk guest who was trying to break down my door in the early hours and the staff on duty saying 'they'd go and have a look for her" half an hour after I reported it. Faulty kettle, dirty towels, takeaway dishes from previous guests with food remains being left in the room and window ledges encouraging vermin. The best part is when I finally complained to the "management" (questionable term) I was met with a condescending manner that attempted to play down my complaints and experience of the week. I will never stay in this hotel again. I am a keen traveler and often stay away in hotels, I'm also an incredibly patient and tolerant person but this hotel needs highlighting as a concern. I didn't eat any meals here aside from Breakfast on a few of the mornings following which I have concluded despite menus stating they cater for dietary requirements the reality of this causes great challenge and explanation of what is a dairy product. Also its a complete surprise everyday whos cooking your breakfast... reception staff are also trained chefs in this establishment and can cook you up a breakfast one minute before then leaving the kitchen and sitting behind reception desk ten minutes later. My stay here caused me great upset and made my week of training very challenging on little sleep and stress.

Jo, Mary and the rest of the staff made me feel very welcome, I was late to check out but they gave me plenty of time to do so and even allowed me to have a lovely breakfast. I'm giving 4 stars as the room needs some fixtures but other than that I will definitely be staying there again if I'm on a night out. Thank you :)

Room was really dated and cleanliness was poor, numerous broken things in the room, from the toilet seat and toilet paper holder to the window catches, didn't look like anyone had hoovered or dusted behind anything in years. Could be an amazing place with some modernising and TLC, But as it is, I've stayed in hostels much better. However the bed was really comfy and location was great, externally it's fairly pretty, the restaurant was pretty good, they did forget a couple of our drinks we ordered on the app, but the food was fantastic and all of the staff were really nice, polite and helpful, so a huge thumbs up to them. All in all, for the money I paid I do feel robbed and I can honestly say I'd only stay here again if I was absolutely desperate, unless a good level of cleaning and modernising was completed.

Corridors very dated, stained carpets, in need of modernisation. My room was clean and tidy but as with the corridors, could do with freshening up, very basic.Friendly receptionist, breakfast waitress came across as everything was to much trouble. I ordered a full english breakfast and only after the waitress had been gone a couple of minutes, I realised I hadn't been asked what eggs I would like, so I called her back and ask for scrambled eggs. 10 minutes later my breakfast came out with what looked like a fried egg that had been broken up to look like scrambled egg and minus black pudding and tomato.Probably one of the worst breakfast I've ever had.I would not recommend staying here and will not be returning. 👎👎

Stayed here on Saturday night, rooms were very shaby for the peice, definitely needs painting and fixtures off the wall putting back on. There were 2 of us but inky 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel(guess we have to share). Down in the bar were 2 young girls working, new to the job, they were so lovely ,,polite and helpful, but,the woman in charge that night we found miserable and not friendly at all and the new bar staff who were so eager to learn were clearly having a hard time with this woman. It was clear she was not helping them to learn but just taking over or being unhelpful to them. Shame on you lady. I remember her from a wedding there we went to,she was miserable then aswell, felt very sorry for the young trainees indeed 😩

We stayed at this hotel because of a celebration we were invited too. The negatives are that the rooms are very small. We had a shower room due to disability but the shower was about 1ft off the floor so we didn't chance it. If there was a slip, 1ft is a long way down for someone with mobility issues. We get the hotel is very old but adjustments do need to be made. The ironing board and iron matched looked like they matched the age of the hotel and were burnt and highly stained. Beds were also very soft and like sinking into a marshmallow. It was also very busy in the evening and there really wasn't enough staff to run the event behind the bar, so trying to get a drink took a long time. The positivesThe staff they did have were nice and friendly and kept their cool dealing with the long queue for drinks. The breakfast wasn't bad and they had a good selection on the self service breakfast table too.Would I stay there again? Probably not as the beds were so soft compared to most hotels, but it was clean, although old. It was more of a convenience because of the distance.
