The Grove in North Norfolk

Great 2 night stay at the Grove in Cromer. We had a room in the lovely Orchard garden, which was large, comfortable, clean and very spacious with a massive double bed! We dined both nights in the hotel dining room as the food and service was so good. Cooked breakfast was great too! Staff were very friendly and efficient. All in all a great base for a lovely short break in North Norfolk.

Just back from afternoon tea at the Grove. Warmly greeted by staff and shown to our chosen table. Unfortunately it went down hill from there. When the food arrived the sandwich fillings were explained but nothing else. Sandwiches were ok but we were unsure if we were eating scones or a hot cross bun and they were extremely doughy. The cakes were dry and quite unappetizing. We were not asked if we needed any more drinks so we each had 1 cup of tea and coffee with our food. It really did not live up to our expectations. Very disappointed.

We have just spent 3 nights at the Grove and it was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by Richard Gravelling who was very attentive and kind. We had our 6 month old baby with us, he asked his name and every time we saw him he asked how ‘Jesse’ was. Little personable things like that really made us feel special. It was our first trip with our little one and the grove made it so incredibly easy. Nothing was too much to ask. They even allowed us to store our milk bottles in their fridge and offered a baby monitoring service.They allow you to book out the pool to yourself which is a lovely touch. The hotel and grounds were stunning, the rooms are beautifully designed and the beds were super comfortable, we slept so well.All of the staff are a credit to the grove, they were all fantastic and treated us really well. I even made a comment to my husband and said ‘The way the staff are treating us make me feel like we are really important and special’ you can be in any establishment in the world but it’s the service that is the most important and makes a place what it is and the Grove has that absolutely nailed.On our first night we dined in the restaurant. The food was incredible. On the last night we dined in the sundown tipi’s, what a wonderful addition to the grove, a really cool vibe and the food was brilliant. We love tapas. A completely different experience to the main restaurant and yet right on our doorstep.The grove have thought about everything. Swimming, massages, a la carte in the decadent main house, tapas in the cool sundown tipi’s, glamping, walks, trendy bar, baby monitoring, the list goes on. Not to mention the perfect location. Just a 10min walk to the pier.Perfect from start to finish in every way.Thank youThe Lowes x

Thank you for looking after us so well. The staff were Excellent and attentive. Beautiful surroundings and lovely hotel. Such a relaxing place to be. Our room was very nice (no 7) and despite the unfortunate problem with a leak we really appreciated the quick response in moving us to the Shepherd hut which again is a lovely place to stay. The cleanliness and decor are Excellent. The food particularly our evening meal was superb. We would highly recommend your hotel and would like to stay again. Thanks again to Richard Gravelling and his staff.

Stayed in a cottage. Really lovely cottage. Went in pool and what a delight. Didn't eat there but only because we have a dairy free allergy person and they couldn't confidently cater for her. Great place for families.

We stayed for 2 nights and friends stayed for 1. The room was Victoria one of the lodges outside, it was not very clean, the cold tap on the bath has clearly been an issue for a while as was very hard to turn on, the bathroom door did not shut or lock. The main hotel was not very clean especially the little hobbit reception, very dirty and didn't look like it had seen a vacuum for a while!! The bar was tiny, no draught beers only bottles or cans. The dinner was nice. The service was ok. Mouldy bread at breakfast which we quietly pointed out to waiter and then another waitress actually came over and got my wife to go to the buffet to show her as she claimed it was fresh. It was NOT and it was mouldy. Was very embarrassing behaviour in a packed breakfast room. Nothing quite like customer service! This was after a hot pot of coffee was accidentally dropped all over the table and my wife (Accidents happen) so not the waitress's fault. The hotel needs a lot of refurbishment, its very very dated and some of the staff need to learn some hospitality customer service skills!! We never asked for any refunds but also no offer was made even though we explained all of the above and it didn't seem to bother the reception lady. Paid nearly £500 for 2 nights. NOT great value unfortunately. Cromer was lovely though so will be back. The Red Lion was lovely and friendly and dinner at Lilly-Maes was amazing... :-)

Had afternoon tea here today as we'd been given a voucher to use. Had looked at the pictures of other people's before booking and they looked lovely.. unfortunately we did not get what others seemed to. We've had many an afternoon tea at other venues and always leave full.. sadly not today. Our voucher was supposed to be worth £34. What we received did not reflect that at all and we got less given to us than everyone else who have shared pictures in the reviews. What we did have was alright but nothing to shout about. Also no choice of teas. The girl that showed us to our table was nice but after we were given our food, we didn't see anybody until we finished - a boy asked us if everything was OK... we'd finished already! The same boy asked us if we were there for afternoon tea as we were leaving. We had to ask at the reception area if they had all the voucher details so we could leave as we didnt see any staff around. Perhaps some training required. Sadly not worth the over 1.5 hour (one way) car journey.

Absolutely superb. We had a voucher for an afternoon tea which was more than plentiful. Great staff, lovely setting, well worth a run out.

We stayed for 5 nights - 5 dinners, 5 breakfasts, in rooms 9 and 10. We loved it!What struck me most was that this was a much loved longterm family home. You could feel it.Lovely mix of old antique furniture and new paintings, There was a real sense of everything being well looked after, whether the house itself or the grounds. Big attention to detail, and the resulting quiet efficient order was very calming and restful. The staff were friendly, efficient, helpful. Meals delicious, beautifully presented. Swimming pool a treat! Rooms and everywhere immaculately clean and comfy.All very impressive! I have already recommended you to friends and family.

Went for dinner at The Grove on a Sunday. So, lovely atmosphere on arrival and staff generally charming and courteous. Quite an up market feel without being off putting. For me the food was a mixed bag. Mussels for starter were great, lovely sauce and bread. Duck main, dare I say, was a bit chewy and skin/fat was not crispy as I would have expected. My dining partner reports that the venison fillet was very good. Service was good with lovely staff if a bit of duplication at times (three different people visiting to ask if we wanted the pudding menu). Overall a nice meal in a lovely setting with charming staff - can't ask for much more
