It is really difficult to give a review for this place but I feel I have to tell everyone of our experience. On Saturday 28th May my mother and I went to The Mulberry, sat outside and had a really pleasant meal. The proprietor, an elderly man who I believe is called Phillip Archer was very welcoming and jolly and my mother who is 104 years of age told him that we would return the following day, Sunday 29th May to partake in their Sunday lunch. We enquired as to whether they were open and told that Sunday is in fact their “busiest day” and their kitchen is open until 3.30pmWe duly returned on Sunday bringing with us a relative from Australia. We arrived at the same time or even earlier than the previous day, about 2.15pm. We wanted to avoid the lunch time rush.On entering the restaurant, it was a bit too chilly to sit outside, we opened the door to find Phillip standing blocking the entrance while taking an order from the table just the the left of the door. He saw us trying to get in, my mother who is wheelchair bound eventually has to say “excuse me” in an effort to get Phillip to make room for her to get in.We sat and ordered very quickly and the food arrived in record time. However, Phillip tipped gravy all over our guest from Australia and made no effort to help clear it up or provide a damp cloth. Just a piece of kitchen paper. We only had a main course, no starters and finished quickly. Then came the shock. We dared to ask for dessert! We were told by the charmless (today) Phillip that the kitchen was now closed and no, we couldn’t have any dessert. The time was 3.10 and just the day before we had been told that the kitchen was open until 3.30pm.I mentioned this timeline to Phillip who would not budge and said that because they had had a “busy day” they were stopping any more food from the kitchen. Even cheesecake and/or Ice cream that as we all know needs no cooking whatsoever.I settled our bill and we left as we felt most uncomfortable and most unwelcome in this cafe where quite obviously the old adage “the customer is always right” does not reach Phillip if he has a bad day, which is exactly what he looked like. A completely different personality from the previous day.Can almost understand the refusal to serve food nearing the kitchen closing time, for customers who walk in near that time but if you advertise and tell customers that your kitchen is open until 3.30 you should honour that time line, but to refuse to serve dessert to customers who are already IN your restaurant and have finished their main course AND with still 20 minutes to go before the 3.30 deadline is just plain rude.We will definitely NEVER return to this place and as regulars to Sheringham this means quite a loss to a cafe. We were so embarrassed for our Australian guest who firstly had gravy tipped all over him and was then refused dessert. There is a saying, if you can’t stand the heat GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN. Would suggest that PHILLIP ARCHER gets out of the kitchen and the cafe as his behaviour as “front of house” waiter is atrocious. It appears that if you get him on a “good” day you are fine, but God help you and your guests if you get him when he is tired and on a “bad” day!Basil Faulty springs to mind.Really disappointing!

Amazing café. Great menu. Dog friendly. My go to café when I am in Sheringham. They also have art work around the place, which one can buy.
