The Old Forge Seafood Restaurant in North Norfolk

Amazing place. Great food. Staff are incredible. This place is truly a little gem.

We booked well in advance to eat here and it did not dissapoint.A small but select dining experience of beautifully cooked seafood. The food was beautifully presented hot and flavoursome. Most of the food is home cooked local and fresh. The old forge was not cheap eating but given the very generous portions and fine wine ,we were very happy.

We loved our swordfish and monkfish. The Mediterranean sauce was bursting with flavour. The lobster sauce was perfect with the monkfish.

Chef is definitely a living legend. Food was fantastic and with character. Best seafood in Norfolk by far. Many thanks!

Colin the jovial and delightful host & chef and all the staff were extremely polite and helpful. The food was fantastic and we really regret not visiting this place sooner. Such a choice it was hard to decide on what to have to eat. Seafood galore, I had oysters and swordfish and my wife had Moules Mariener and the boulboise. I had to finish off with one of Colin's homemade specials of prunes in Armagnac bread & butter pudding. Only slight discomfort were the chairs so next time I will take a small cushion to sit on.

This is a must visit restaurant for any seafood loved. Colin and his team create a homely atmosphere and the food is exceptional. The mussels were particularly delicious and if there is creme brulee on the menu you will not regret ordering it as it is one of the best! We hope to be back next time we're in Norfolk.

Wonderful dining experience for myself and my young children. The seafood was local and fresh and second to none, but the hospitality offered to us from Colin in particular is something you don’t find too much these days. He certainly is a character, very engaging and witty. We will certainly be going back if they can squeeze us in again! Thankyou 👍🏾

Passed by this restaurant many times over the years and always noted that they were always fully booked. Now I know why. After successfully booking a table we were able to enjoy the most incredible food served in a relaxed and friendly restaurant. Personally I feel the prices reflected the standard of cuisine. A lovely treat for our 29th wedding anniversary celebration!

I have been inspired to write this review having read the previous entry. My husband and I visited the restaurant on the 26th May and were greeted warmly, shown to our table and treated to a wonderful meal with homemade bread freely available throughout, we were visited several times by Colin (the owner) who gave interesting stories about the history of the forge and various other numerous anecdotes, these were extremely amusing. We had such an enjoyable time that we have booked a table for ourselves and two other guests later this month. The food was wonderful.

I am sad to say that we had a really disappointing experience at the Old forge. We were really looking forward to it.Firstly we were told off for being 7 minutes late. I then asked a genuine question to see if the seafood platter was for sharing and was told I should go to the cheap pub down the road if I wanted that.We ordered the crab gratin but when it arrived it wasn't tasting right...we politely said to the lovely waitress that it didn't taste quite right and were then 'told off' four times by the owner who came to see us. He then proceeded to tell us that he had eaten the remainder of our meal (despite covid) and that the problem was with us, not the rotten crab.The soup was fine but the atmosphere was so tense and uncomfortable that we couldn't wait to leave. The waiting staff are lovely but the owner does not make you feel welcome at all. The reason I am giving two stars and not one is that the bread and butter pudding was nice.We didn't want to make a scene as we didn't know how the owner would react so we politely left but will not be back.I imagine I will get a very rude response but I would advise that before you book, consider why others have left similar reviews.
