Bit disappointing - the bar manager was quite abrupt when we arrived and we didn’t feel welcome at all. The surroundings (bar and courtyard) were beautiful, but all afternoon teas were unavailable at 2pm on a Saturday. Our orders arrived fast, but we wouldn’t return simply because of the attitude. Such a shame, as other staff were lovely.

A perfect meeting place for friends or family, just off the A1. The service from the staff is impeccable and the food delicious. I visit about once every two months and cannot fault it. It's 100% dependable for everything.

Had afternoon tea, it was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble at all. Our little party of 4 celebrating my friends Birthday was fabulous. We WILL be coming back. Lorna? our server was extremely helpful throughout. Thank you to all the staff.

If there is anywhere in the UK that has better Staff, please let me know. We stayed & ate here two nights and, as someone who has travelled in the UK & Overseas (personally & on business), this is one of the best. Accommodation, Decoration, Food and STAFF were all excellent.

We have stayed here twice now and absolutely love it. We feel really welcome and comfortable. We didn't have enough hot water on this last visit, not sure what the issue was. Would stay here again, in a heartbeat.

Had a lovely dinner at the Restaurant - fantastic food. We were booked in at 6pm, and we were the first people there, sat by the open fire. It got busier by the time we left, but it still felt cosy and intimate. Well worth a visit!

A place with real character. The single rooms have a double bed and a good deal of space and really well furnished with plenty of floor space and a real comfy feel. The pub side has a lovely warm feeling, the food exceptional, duck breast with pomegranate and beetroot was an absolute star, the creme brulé a close second. The local beer was well worth a go. All in all a relaxed evening stop over.

Friendly staff that are always ready and willing to help.Making special events work with ease. I went for a wedding, and the staff could not be more helpful. For things for children to colour and draw on. Amazing rooms, with a amazing beds that are nice to sleep in and always enough coffee and tea in the rooms. It is was easy to contact the front desk to ask for anything from coffee and tea refills, you can ask for more cups or mugs to be brought up to your room. And even if you wish you can ask for a bucket of ice to be brought up to your room and they are really quick with making sure you are accommodated. Food was amazing as well. From the look to the taste. And the courtyard is nice to sit in if you need to smoke or just want to get some air.
