Absolutely appalling service. Asked twice to get table cleared and wiped down. Theafternoon tea was stingy and well over priced. Food came before drinks. Was givenno plates, cutlery and serviettes. Will not be going again.

I can highly recommend the Afternoon Tea. It is the best one I have tasted. Excellent value and delicious. Thank you for a lovely visit.

Unfortunately I can only offer 3 stars at this time because the experience was less than great. We felt rather unwelcome after heading to the coffee style bar to view cakes with the intention of picking them there, along with drinks and returning to our table. The manager was rather rude and flippant with us about us ordering at the cafe counter and honestly if I wasn't with a larger party I would've walked out then and there. The elderly waitress who served us was an absolute delight and I couldn't fault the food.A quiet little location, comfortable and cosy with expensive products that seems to want to choose its clientele.

Poor service. Seven staff pleasant but no sense of urgency, only one taking orders from the queue. Ordered one soup, 4 teas and self served sandwiches and cake. Given one knife for 4 people. After prompting a passing waitress the teas were delivered without spoons after we had finished our sandwiches and cake.

Limited range of lunch meals to chose, and ordering was a tad confusing. However beautiful setting with lots of lovely spots to chose to sit, and I enjoyed the duck and watermelon salad I ordered.

Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Price For Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Overall the price of the food/drinks at The Orangery was good. Reasonably priced and the location given to us for the price was fantastic.Speed of Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️On this particular day the speed of service was fine. The main Front of House was fantastic in the way she seated us and the banter my party had with her flowed really well. However the wait for drinks was a little long and we had to ask 3 times to receive our jugs of water.Food Quality: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Overall quality of my food was extremely good. Receiving a little 3 tower for my afternoon tea was very good. My first experience of receiving one each was very much appreciated. Nice variety of flavours and combination of foods was amazing.Restaraunt Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The overall cleanliness of the store was good. We sat outside but from what I saw when entering to pay was very hygienic and clean.AOB-I have no other business to add.

As a Tudor buff I've waited a very long time to see Cecil's Burghley House and as I approached I was infinitely excited. Even the ticketing centre is a big grand affair. Unfortunately as astonishing as the big murals are as well as stacks and stacks of paintings, it all begins to muddle about midway through as you take in yet another Madonna and child, headless John the Baptist or Greco-Roman scene. I also didn't realise that this is a working home so despite the grand exterior the tour is disappointingly short. We did enjoy some overpriced sweets in The Orangery to lift our spirits which were actually very nice and almost worth getting attacked by wasps both indoors and outdoors. As we got chased back to the car park by great clouds of flies I admit we wondered if the three hour drive and price of admission had been worth the trouble. We hope to take advantage of the yearly pass for a wander through the garden when the weather isn't so awful.

Cakeselection is nice, fresh and all. BUT: Lunch menu is very limited, there is no carbfree option to be had. Even though the menu on the wall listed a cheese board I was told no cheese board could be prepared because the kitchen was closed. Wonder how cheese sandwiches were being prepared then. Very disappointing, considering the surroundings. The 8 pound sandwich plates are pathetic ...

A lovely place - really beautiful room with (when we visited) sunshine streaming in through the huge windows. Very peaceful and relaxed feel. We stayed for lunch (lentil and goats cheese salad) and were impressed with how good it was - delicious! Reasonable prices as well. Really enjoyed our visit.

Burghley House plus this very nice food I heartily recommend. But they deserve better than this utterly unimaginative and rather cheap interior design.
