Just utter chaos from start to finish. Such a shame, as this used to be a great Sunday afternoon venue. Such a poor level of service with extremely long wait times on food.

Booked a family Sunday lunch. This is a pub that over many years had a solid reputation for great food and service. The food is still good but what lets it down is the service now - chaotic, disorganised and slightly unprofessional. Wrong drinks order, regularly asking if you have ordered food/drinks when it was for another table (It wasn't even a full pub when we ate here) and no checking if things are ok after the food had been served. At the price point that this place is aiming at, you would expect these basics to be in place, but they are not. The length of waiting time was so long we decided to pass up on the puddings/coffee. To the owner/manager - you are not getting the very basics of good hospitality right for a food destination venue - train the staff, be more attentive, clear tables quickly and I am sure you will improve the overall offer. If you don't this then people like us who have returned to this pub owing to past great standards will go elsewhere and your Google review level will continue to fall (as I note that in recent times the level of poor reviews has increased greatly). If you have a few hours for a food service then this is fine - if you want your food in good time suggest that you try elsewhere. I posted 2 stars because it is clear the staff are trying and the food is good but the overall experience is not great.

New owners , only 3 people in for lunch Thursday. Our BLT sandwiches arrived in a roll cut in half which was so hard and dry as to be nearly unedable but the chips were very good as well as the bacon ,lettuce and tomato. Service was not the best and the card machine was not working so we had to search for cash.

Stopped here yesterday for a late lunch, food very nice, ale good as well. It's in need of people going back in if we want it back how it was 10 years ago.

Booked a meal for last night. Confirmed. Arrived 15 mins before booked time and the pub lit up but closed. No explanation.! Not happy but fortunately a pub was open just down the road where we enjoyed a lovely meal. Will never book there again!

Very sad. What was once fine dining is now not even close. Poor menu, Saturday night and no sirloin steaks left! Expensive food and very poorly cooked. Half empty restaurant and freezing cold. Pleasant enough people though. Better off going to a Harvester.

Dirty lipstick around the wine glass.Waited 2 hrs for food.Food though was delicious.Bills were mixed up and most people overcharged. It wasn't very busy and the floor staff were all new. They tried there best but I wouldn't go back.

This is a beautiful old village pub with a lovely log fire right in the middle of the building. On our visit the service was a little chaotic, but that was down to new and inexperienced staff. They were still very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had the Sunday roast with pork and crackling and nut-roast for the vegetarians. The food was simply outstanding. Generous portions, with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and a host of delicious vegetables. While nut-roast may lack originality, I'm assured that it too was delicious. Everything was topped off with a beautiful rich gravy. Sadly our visit was quite short, with no time for starters or dessert, but we'll definitely back to sample more of the superb food. If you're in the area, you should definitely give the King William IV a try.

Nice pub with nice guest ale. Good pub good, fish and chips lovely, mussels (main) delicious and generous. Allowed us to use the car park for our walking group which was nice. Interesting decoration with some historical artefacts and a real fire!
