Great service, really tasty food, interesting wine list - definitely one to visit again soon

Tiny portions at extortionate prices. Nouvelle cuisine gone mad. To add insult to injury we were forced to hear a long spiel, re dishes, before ordering , which was pretentious and boring. Extremely disappointing meal, and we left hungry, having felt we wasted our evening. Plenty of other much better places to eat in Cambridge, won’t be returning!

Went out with friends to celebrate Diana's birthday at The Ancient Shepherds, aka MJP Restaurant, Mark Poynton (ex Alimentum, Midsummer House), his new venture. This was our first 'posh' meal since before The Blight. Posh being defined as anything over £50 per head in my book, and this was £68 each, all in. But it was worth every penny, and we had a great time. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food was imaginative and perfectly cooked. Very little salt in the food, and no salt on the table, but we were asked if we wanted anything else with the food, and I guess we could have asked. The waiter didn't flinch when I (jokingly) asked for tomato ketchup! The halibut was cooked perfectly, and for me, the highlight of the meal was the pudding - tarte tatin on Stilton. As Craig Revel Horwood might have said: de-lish-us! Top marks all round.

This is a real place for foodies. My wife had a splendid Venison dish and I had a lovely Jacobs Ladder dish. We will be back for sure!

A real hidden gem. Fantastic all round- service, food, atmosphere. Every single dish was faultless. The highlight was most definitely the cod and the mushroom risotto. We cannot wait to go back!

Wonderful food - I love the concept of choosing anything as a main or a starter. Everything we ate was incredible, and the wine and cocktails were also great!

Food was amazing, the setting was lovely and ther was very good service.Everything tasted fantastic and was prepared and presented beautifully. Portion sizes were spot on to allow you to be able try the full range of the menu. The menu was well put together with great options for everyone (including a proper homemade Gluten free MJP loaf as opposed to shop bought defrosted stuff you usually get.)Definitely worth a visit.
