So then. A much awaited visit to the Oak Bistro tonight after all the positive comments in here.It was a delayed anniversary meal and myself, my wife and our 10 year old foodie headed out.Upon arrival the staff were very pleasant and we were seated very quickly.Place was busy only a couple of free tables. After some bubbles to begin with we ordered. Wellington for me, Rib-eye for our daughter (medium rare) and sea bream for my wife.Food took a while but we were served some bread and a dip.The Wellington - mashed potatoes were cold, red wine jus was cold and the beef had a heartbeat in the centre. Now I don’t mind medium rare but blue is not always to my liking unless I have sourced the meat.Sea Bream - cold, floppy skin, vegetables were cold and had barely touched a pan.The rib-eye was spot on for cooking but had not been rested long enough. When I asked the manager in passing how they aim to cook the Wellington he said medium rare. I mentioned the above comments and the half hearted answer was would you like it cooked more.Considering that our daughter was already tucking into her steak and we were fairly hungry I declined thinking of how can they correct the cooking considering I had cut through it already.Desserts (fondant and cremè brûlée) were ok.To say that we were underwhelmed is an understatement. Not just by the adult mains but the overall attitude of the managemen having mentioned where the food fell short. Was not expecting freebies or any special treatment but £150 with the service charge for food and drinks was just not worth it for what we got.It will be safe to say - never again.

Excellent service, great food, bit pricey. We'll be back, though, as it's one of the better places in Cambridge. We sat in the courtyard, which is lovely, and I had the mushroom risotto to start. Lovely bite to it and good flavour.Beef wellington for the main was really tasty, cooked beautifully. Nice sauce.Portion size good, and we were too full for dessert. We'll be back again to try it next time!

Can’t fault this place. I arrived 40 mins before the reservation time and the lovely waiter was able to offer us a table in the back garden which is lovely! The food is outstanding - everything we tried was delicious. The scallops, the sea bream, the beef Wellington are all incredible, possibly the best I ever had. The champagne was gorgeous and proving very popular at this restaurant. Their list of wines is impressive so if you’re after some old Lebanese wine, they have it! The staff members were extremely nice and made the whole experience. The prices are very reasonable here compared to London where a beef Wellington is around £100 in a good restaurant. Also, surprisingly this restaurant charges only 10% for service, compared to 12.5% in London. In conclusion, I would definitely revisit this place on my next visit in Cambridge!

Lovely long evening spent at the Oak Bistro this week. All the food was spot on. The beef wellington was fab every bite. In hindsight I’d order a side.

I highly recommend this restaurant. They have super delicious food, especially the beef wellington, probably it is the best you would get. Atmosphere of the restaurant is also so nice with nice seating area outside but warm. The staff are so friendly. Really loved it.

I booked The Oak Bistro for a conference dinner with a group of international colleagues. Philip couldn't have been more friendly, efficient and accommodating in helping me to plan the event, and in making sure that everything ran smoothly on the day. The food, wine, and service were exceptional and everyone had a wonderful time. It was worlds away from the shoddy treatment larger groups can sometimes experience, and we really appreciated how we (and other diners!) could still enjoy the intimacy of the venue. A big thanks to Philip, Robert and James for looking after us so attentively. Whatever the occasion, if you're looking for something a bit more special and unique among the many generic places in Cambridge, and where professionalism meets the personal touch, then I couldn't recommend the Bistro more highly.

Stunning quality food. Exceptional staff. Shout out to Alex who was even more exceptional than exceptional. Their take on beef wellington is supreme. I can't fault this place.

A gem in the city centre with great food and great service!! Hand picked short menu offers you great choices. Tried the rib-eye steak and beef wellington. Both were excellent and cooked to perfection. Chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream is a treat. Should also mention the excellent service right from arrival to departure. Thanks to Alessandra, Daniella and Philip for making our stay pleasant. Make sure to book a table before you go as the place is usually busy. Highly recommended!

The oak Bistro is walking distance from downtown and can easily be reached by bus or walking. The restaurant is neat and clean and all staff was wearing protective covers. The wine was good but I probably made the wrong selection by picking a UK Pinot grigio, it was just OK. The food was quickly delivered, the plates are well presented but the taste was lacking a bit more flavour for my taste. Overall it was a good experience but not extraordinary.
