Alex's Fish, Chips and Grill Takeaway and Restaurant in Southend-on-Sea

Customer service from one staff member made this a horrible experience along with the new menu not really being that great any more. It's a real shame seems like it's going down hill from the great place it was. One friend left without having had food after a problem with their order and some bad customer service meant they just didn't want to bother and just got a refund. There was one waitress who was really nice and kept checking in with us so kudos to her.

A slightly confusing menu, but the food was decent as was the beer :). The staff were friendly, flexible and helpful even when a large group of us descended on them. I had the mac and cheese with the buffalo Chicken topper.... delicious:)

TL;DR Ambience, food and service all super lovely!Location is just a road off from the high street and town centre. The interior is comfortable, and there’s a variety of events throughout the week that they have.I’ve come here twice now and the food has always been delicious. First time around was burgers and fries. Second time around is with the photo below.The thing that catches my eye is the complimentary drink and fries (extra cost for different fries), which is such a great price! Most places you would have to get your own drink/chips with a separate cost. The draught schweppes really has also won my heart here.Second time we got small bites, also known as ‘It’s going to get messy!’ The halloumi skewers was generous, the cod tacos with the beet root tortilla was decent, the Korean bbq chicken was very crispy and good, only thing to say is the calamari sticks were a tad saltier than I would’ve preferred. But overall very yummy.Service was really lovely especially the second time around there was a lady that checked up on us whilst we were eating to ensure it was all good, etc.I would recommend it!

Had such quick and friendly service. Grace was just the most lovely and attentive bartender. It’s our third time back as it’s such good value! Highly recommend. For £20 you literally couldn’t beat it if you tried.

Stumbled across this place on the walk back to our hotel and so glad we did. The food and atmosphere was great and very good prices! The football was on multiple screens and the place was clean. Couldn’t have asked for more!

Well worth a detour from the seafront, to avoid the crowded tourist spots. The (all day) breakfast pictured was £6.25 and a glass of coke was £2.56 (July 2022). Food arrived around 10 mins after ordering, staff were polite and the toilets were clean. Can't really ask for anything else.

We went to The Alex for bottomless brunch and I couldn't fault it. The staff really looked after us and we was never without a drink. The food was simple yet very tasty. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be going back. Such a bargain for your money!! ❤️

Hats off to this gem of a place! They accommodated us group of 12 at relatively short notice. The food was great along with the atmosphere. It topped our weekend off massively. It was busy at the time being the bank holiday weekend and the football on but the staff done a grand job. Thanks to all at "The Alex"

Recently experienced the Bottomless Brunch and came away extremely satisfied! We had a table of 9 and there wasn't a moment any of our glasses were empty. Staff were attentive and very well prepared with our next orders. Drank and ate to my absolute fullest and will certainly be booking another experience there soon!
