Alfie's Authentic English Fish & Chips in Southend-on-Sea

My food was edible (I was hungry) but I've defo had better. I had savory and chips; was expecting proper chip shop chips but that's not what we got. Service was swift though. As we were leaving though, staff were acting as if we were gonna leave without paying because a couple of our group went to the toilet across the road (they don't have their own toilet facilities for customers) and were making jokes about us leaving that came across a little passive aggressive, as if we weren't paying customers.

Great food but suprised there were no toilets or anywhere to wash your hands. More than 10 seats I thought it was required.

Great gluten free fish and chips ! I am coeliac and allergic to soya, my son is gf and df. We eat here no problem, they serve gf any day but ring ahead as they need to turn the gf fryer on as gf is cooked separately just like it should be!We chatted to the chef and owner who is very nice, chef’s son is gf so they know how to cater for allergies correctly. It is a small place but food was absolutely lovely, amazing chips! It is located just opposite the pier under the covered walkway.Also look up Gold Coast Chinese, menu shows allergens, the owner’s son is severely allergic so they cater for allergies :D

Proper fish and chips with the BEST curry sauce I've had in a long time. Absolutely lovely service too.

Very friendly place. Not a gourmet restaurant but a nice fish and chip shop.

We ate lunch here on a day trip to Southend. The main reason was that they serve gluten free fish and chips which means that I can enjoy this traditional fare with the family. They use a separate frier and oil which is excellent but do need 15 minutes notice so the oil can heat up. I had gluten free cod and rest of the family had skate, haddock, plaice and sausage. All of it crispy and tasty. The atmosphere is friendly and it is immediately adjacent the pier. Would recommend and will be our first choice for fish and chips next time we are visiting Southend.

We sat in for some fish & chips and some chicken nuggets for the kids.One of the best experiences we ever had in a restaurant in England! Staff was friendly and professional, the food was... Oh my god, so good! Everyone devoured everything. We didn't even had to wait long, around 10 minutes after the order, everything was there & ready to eat. Five stars, no complaints whatsoever, and if ever go to Southend-on-Sea again, we already know where we'll eat.

I ordered 2 salmon dishes for £10+ each. It was nice, the salmon and potatoes were perfectly cooked but it didn't fill us up.I wish we ordered chips too!
